New Intel driver is working really well for me. Comes on very quickly after standby.

What problems did you read about with the Atheros? Anything besides the wireless light on the notebook staying on even when the card is disabled via FN-F2? I love my Atheros card and personally it doesn't bother me that the light stays on.

Tox, sorry but i'm really busy now, but i'm sure you can search for Atheros and/or 2915 and see that some of the people that got the chip had problems... they sounded kinda disappointed (as i would) thinkin' that it would solve their probs...

i think Schembfs may have the best answer - it would solve a lotta things that are inherient in using the G band which are only gonna get worse as more and more ppl go wireless... you know that prolly all home users will be on the G band... and i've never had a problem with range at all - i've always been able to use low power settings without any probs...

gonna keep using my G for now, but moving to A is now gonna be my first option, not messing with G anymore if i have trouble... already looking at routers and the D-Link DI-784 looks like a better investment than another wireless card...

thanks my friend for giving me a different point of view... helping each other is what this is all about

I have the Atheros now, but my wife's Sony uses a 2200. Will these work for her? I'm assuming they will....

Sorry, that was a dumb question. I thought these were a Dell-flavored release. I didn't realize they were straight from Intel.

when i first got my xps the 2915 was fine... but for the last 6 weeks or so it usually wouldn't even connect, had to use RJ-45...

now i've got it working so i'm not changin' a damn thing lol

most of the people i heard complainin' about the 2915 were talkin' about conn speed, etc. but at least they had a conn... i've been lookin' at the Atheros mini pci card but i've seen posts about probs with that too...

it's been one of the few things that really suck with the 93000/xps (the touchpad is lousy too and the firewire is only 400)...

it would be great if it would solve the probs... let us all hope and pray that it does...
I dont seey why people hate the touchpad, mine is very good, the surface isnt all that rough, you can adjust your touchpad settings to your desire maybe that would help??? Ive played with alot of touchpads, I like the 9300's touchpad compared to many out there from HP, Sony and Toshiba, not quite as nice as IBM's thinkpad though. A wireless notebook mouse works wonders, check em out!!

I've been using the 9.0.2.10/9.0.2.25 from intel for 2 months and never had 1 disconect or drop in speed, intel drivers are really good.

I'm starting to think that the wifi light going off are cause buy the new Dell bios , A04.

Anyways to each there own solution but intel drivers always worked perfectly for me and s far the newest one 9.0.2.11/9.0.2.31 are working perfectly and my light didn't go off yet.
Good Point magalarm, I think the biggest problem with drivers is that people go driver mad and have to have the latest and soo called greatest , which isnt always the greatest. Always check to see if a driver or bios upgrade is going to do what youre hoping it will do before you upgrade. I see alot of people do this with their video cards, end up driver updating a driver that wasnt for the laptop card but for a desktop one, big mistake. Im sure the Intel drivers would be pretty safe and stable though in the case of the wireless card since this is a laptop part to begin with.

using intel 9.0.2.31 and they work...need to test in battlefiled2 though, since I had problems there with the old drivers.

Ok those drivers did not help. I still have connection problems in BF2. I keep getting some connection problem messages during the game and that really sucks. Do you guys think I can get Dell to replace that ? I mean something is obviously wring with Intel 2200BG.

i have two bluetooth mice, love 'em both... but occasionally it's convenient to use what's built in... and yes i've adjusted it's attributes... the way it comes is unreal it's so super sensitive... and mine is very rough... again i prefer Trackpoints but if i'm gonna have to use a touchpad, i would much prefer a softer, smoother surface that's more rubber-like, silicon maybe... not a big deal since i use a mouse 99%+ of the time...

care a lot more about havin' a good wireless connection...

Now, however, I get better signal throughout the house. Before I use to idle on the desktop at 36Mbps across the house downstairs at my desk, now it's at 48Mbps. Also, when talking on my 2.4Ghz wireless phone, rate would drop to 11Mbps, but now it sometimes stays at 24Mbps, definitely some improvement. I never had dropped connections before, and there still are none, so all looks good.
Is the driver and the software in the download file or is it just the 9.0.2.1 driver? If it's just the driver, where would i get the updated software? To unistall the driver, i go under the "Device manager > network adapters > Intel prowireless 2915abg net connection". Is that right? Sorry about my noobness but i don't understand computers that well.

Btw, who uses the Dell or intel drivers and lets Windows manage the wifi card? vs. the Intel app?

I downloaded the latest Dell official drivers, didn't like the Intel app that came with it, but I wanted the latest drivers (at that time). So I took the inf file from the drivers folder that the Dell executable always creates, and told Windows to update the drivers from that file. Driver version: 9.0.2.25

I think I'm going to try the new Intel ones, cause I've been having a problem after booting up where sometimes I have to repair the wifi connection to get it to connect properly.

Thx for the link, btw.

You download both the driver and the software when you download that package, but just choose to install the driver only and NOT the application during installation. Just use control panel>add or remove programs to uninstall the driver

wow... thanks for reminding me to check up my WiFi card driver. I didn't realize I have a even older version than the Dell driver. zOMG... got to update!!!

I like the ProSet utility for its statistics and wireless on/off switch (particularly useful for those using the Intel card in a non-Centrino laptop). But I find that letting Windows manage the connection gets me connected faster after power up/reboot/standby.

The Intel drivers on Dell's site have problems. The latest generic ones from Intel are solid. I'm running in a massive wireless environment at the moment (the Microsoft PDC 2005, believe me, there are about 50+ wireless access points within the LA Convention Center). Upon arrival with the latest Dell version, rates constantly dropped to 2.0 Mbps or less and would lose connection due to all the users (5000+ attendees, at least 50% are using wireless all day long).

Since upgrades, I've had zero dropped connections. In fact, the Intel network engineers were here on Tuesday and explained the situation and the upgrade needed. So give the latest Intel a shot, they certainly solved the problems I was having with dropping speed and connectivity.

thanks for the info, hellava large area to cover with ton of users too...

that the 9.0.2.1?

i'm running the Dell ver 9.0.2.10, 9.0.2..25 and havin' Win control it, no probs since switching to A band...
how do you have windows control it and turn off the intel app? do you just uninstall the software via control panel? since ive installed it, the windows app and intel app have been fighting and bootup times have increased to almost two minutes from being just under a minute before.

If the software can be installed and uninstalled via control panel add anr remove programs, how do you uninstall the drivers? I dont see any entry in there for the drivers.
