I had terrible sound with the onboard card. Low frequencies were almost totally absent, using all the reccomeded settings(i.e: pwerful on EQ). I tried every driver I could find. I have 3 friends with the same system and the same problem. I broke down and bought the Audigy from Bestbuy for 60 bucks. I don't regret it, although I had higher hopes for the High Definition audio. Maybe it will get lined out with a BIOS update, who knows...

did you try the SPDIF output? A friend of mine has another brand clevo clone like the 7700, he has an analog speaker system, and low frequencies are only output from the SUB connector, but i don't know about digital...ill guess ill find out soon

I tried it a while back, I thought it was for digtal output. Either way, it didn't work for me. I still love the laptop, even with lame sound...Audigy made it all better.

Does the on-board sound card give good audio with headphones?

(Did I just ask if a notebook gives good head?)

LOL!

My onboard sound sucks on speakers and headphones. It works though... Maybe others have had better results than me.

I would say that it sucks on headphones and everything plugged into the first port bcause its got a bass filter...so to get bass you need a 8ch config and plug it into the 3rd port(only for powered speakers)....thats why i wanted to know about connecting speakers through the digital connection

>>my ipod sounds better...

....i can't belive i said my lappy sucks in some way im going to be abducted...i better hide somewhere...

>>tip 4 everybody using external speakers or headphones with ur internal sound, disable the "sound virtualization or 3d effect or whatever it is" by pressing FN+F1
