Come on people, surely we can get some info on the 7800 upgrade, right?

I'm just dying looking at all of the various new 7800 cards flying off the shelves and I keep saying 'Just wait a bit longer. Soon Dell will announce the upgrade path for the XPS2.'

Has anyone heard anything lately about a timeframe for the 7800 Go (or whatever it will be called)?

I know there's nothing set in stone that says that we will even be able to upgrade. But it seems like a no brainer. The 7800 even consumes less power than it's 6800 U cousins.

Too damn bad! When Dell announces it then you will know. Sometimes you need to use a bit of common sense. Do you realise the 7800 desktop has only been out for a couple months? Engineering a desktop GPU to work inside a laptop isn't as easy as pushing a button. Lots of engineering and research needs to go into it. So just ****ing WAIT like everyone else is doing, and stop making topics asaking the same question over and over. When Dell announces it then you will know. They haven't even made the 7800 go yet. We keep getting this same question asked every day, you could of looked a couple pages back and seen that.

Exactly. A few pages back, which means that it's not currently a topic of conversation, so bite me flame-boy.

Anyway I was asking for RUMORS, not product announcements, I can get those off of Dell's website.

Why do you want rumors? The thing about rumors is they are usually wrong. Just enjoy the 6800 until some acutal information comes out.

Nvidia haven't even announced the mobile 7800 part yet I thought?

True, but Dell was a launch partner for the 6800 U.
They haven't announced it yet. And just because a thread is old doesn't mean you shouldn't use it. If it is asking the same question write in that thread and it will be moved to the front of the list.

As for the 7800 go

haha, sorry for the messed up link.

Link doesn't work Draconis!

And darn the 6800 Ultra is sweet!
I might even wait for the GeForce 8 mobile edition.
Already blew a lot of money on this machine and only have it for a couple of months.

Yes...
More is better.
And perhaps it might be even tempting when it comes out.
But the 7800 will have to blow me away before I really consider to upgrade to it!

You might be better off selling your laptop and getting a new one with a 7800 with a 40% percent coupon. Dells prices for upgrades are not cheap.

Once nVidia and/or Dell makes an announcement somewhere about a mobile 7800 card there will be threads about it within minutes plastered all over the net including NBF. Nothing to do but watch and wait at this point.

UPGRADE? WHAT UPGRADE?? GEE WHIZ your brand new xps2 feeling out of date already?? There is NO NVIDIA 7800 GO CARD, you youre going to be waiting a long while. Notebooks dont see the new stuff for some time after desktops do. When It comes out it will be on the XPS GEN 3
post #13 of 53
Another thing you have to realize is that even when a go card comes out in the 7800 flavor, Dell would have to have one made for the XPS, these cards are proprietary, you cant take a go card from an HP for example, and put it in a Dell.
Youre gonna be waiting and waiting and waiting my friend.

Why not enjoy your laptop now???

I was told by my Business Dell guy that the 7800 is currently in testing at Dell for the XPS2. He said it would probably be out in October. Call it a rumor, but it seems plausible to me.
Someone needs to hack that bios and extract what video controllers they added.
Well... I tihnk I'll put my waiting hat on. Expecially if the price doesnt go up for the 7800, or comes down for the 6800. Middle of october...

The description that came with the A04 BIOS update mentioned it was also for supporting newer videocards.
And since it doesn't get any better then the 6800 Go Ultra so far...

That is exactly the kind of information I was looking for. Thanks.
