Why is StarTech the only place that has W2V notebooks? I called and spoke to John, he says this is his second shipment, no other reseller has them do they? Looks like ASUS is playing favorites again.

PROPortable mentioned in one of the thread they received them as well. There is a sticky on the other forum. I haven't read up on the status.

They really do don't they. But for 2500 i think, if not more. It is a bit expensive. 17" w/ ATI700 and subwoofer and TV Tuner is a bit sick.

speakers are very subjective and i would wait to try them myself before i judge them.... called my local reseller today and am having them check when they will be available.

Did I read subwoofer? What does it have a lineout for a sub or something? that can't sound very good. Still, the laptop is very nice looking and the TV tuner is a plus. But I think I'll stick with the refresh. The price difference is just too huge for just a bigger screen and TV tuner.

No, the subwoofer is built in. I remember my old Toshiba had a subwoofer- it was the best sounding laptop I ever had.

How the hell would that work? I mean, I guess it could sound slightly better, but any serious subwoofer can't be shielded enough to be IN the computer.

Well of course it's not a type of subwoofer that would shake down buildings or anything like that, but it is a great assist for sound.

The original W1 series had it as well. That was overpriced in my opinion.

Yah, that's the only thing keeping the 70va refresh in the running for me... that and it's just a wee more portable. I don't really have much need for a TV tuner, but I guess it would be nice to have one.

Damn my woman for only allowing me to only have one laptop in the house.

I just put a downpayment on mine today. 3450 CAD.... it's a shitload of cash but I can justify it because I use my computer a LOT. I should have it in 2 weeks.

I just received my W2V from StarTech today (actually, I had to cross the border to pick it up - I'm a Canadian).

I have to say John from StarTech is one of the best sales guys I've talked to, and I would highly recommend him or purchase from him again. I was the first person on the waiting list for the W2V, and placed my order with John the day they started taking pre-orders. Over the long wait for the W2V, John has been very helpful and informative whenever I called him to get an update.

About the W2V, all I have to say is wow. It looks and feels amazing. I haven't really had a chance to play with it yet, as the first thing I did when I got home was start a recovery process to make sure the install was what I wanted it to be (it just finished). It did come preinstalled; it was very courteous of StarTech to do a pre-install for me, and even have the user account named after my real name :P.

Regarding the price, it is a bit expensive, but you do receive many peripheral items with it that make up for it, and also the design is impeccable. The W2V I received came with a Targus case, the brushed metal looking Logitech mouse, 3 discs of games, and a bunch of cables (I don't know what most of them do yet).

Now I have to get back to my W2V .

damnit.... we need a review from you on it soon.

all i can say is it is mighty tempting, im still unsure of asus for me but the W2 is prettymuch everything i could want with the slight exception of a 6800ultra, but that is more a preference than a solid need.
