Thread Starter
I started this thread because I have my Alienware and I will let anyone ask me questions about it. You can ask me anything about the Alienware laptop and I will answer it if I can.

Can you take a look at my topic thread: "Alienware AMD 64? Questions about buying."

I have some quesitons about the process or and video card and how it works with gaming in 1600/1200 on a ALIENWARE Area 51m.

Any info you can give regarding performance of processor, video card vs other gaming notebooks or experiences with gaming would be greatly appreciated.

My question: In the "Alienware 51 vs. Voodoo 460" thread you said something about the keyboard being messed up. Most people here have commented that the keyboard is really good. Somebody (I dont remember who) even said that it was second only to IBM's keyboards. So what exactly is the problem with the keyboard and are you sure that its not just a defect with your machine?

I'm not sure if it is a defect but that is how it was on my laptop. The F8 key is like falling off and when I looked in the Manual it said that the F8 key has a latch under it so you can open the keyboard. The keyboard hsa a little flex in it. But when I got it the keyboard looked warped and I had to push it down to make it better.

Found this on the AW Forum they said by the end of November they will have a program that you can disable the flashing eyes with. Finally, now I don't have to cover the eyes with a cloth at night because it is bright.

Is it worth it to buy the DVD-RW/R or just settle for the DVD/CD-RW?
Any more AMD64 mobile in area51m---info?

I'm curious about whether the DVD-Writer is worth it as well. Granted I don't know what the pros or benefits to them are, but that's a hefty price to pay for one.

Well I only got the DVD/CD-RW because I already have a desktop that has one so it saved me money on the laptop. I wouldn't get a mobile AMD64 laptop or any laptop with AMD in it. The only configurations I saw with the AMD64 mobile had only 64MB of video memory.

I have a few questions

Okay I plan to buy an Alienware 51M within the next moth and these are going to be the specs on it
Pent. 4 3Ghz, 60GB HD, 1024DDR PC3200 RAM, 15.4 screen, silver case, DVD-RW/CD-RW.

These are my questions:
1. Which video card is better The ATI or the Nvida.
2. I've been reading reviews from people who's bought these notebooks(not from this website) and there have been reports about really bad customer service. How has your exp. been.
3. Do they plan to include Hyper Treading soon
4. How many memory slots
5. What do they mean warranty service phone support with depost service. Whats deposit service.
6. I you get a one year warranty with your notebook and want to extend your warranty before it expires can you do that.
7. How long does it take for them to build it
8. Which color is better
9. Should I get the AlienAdrenaline
10. Have you played Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic on it, wanna know if it runs great

forgot a question

How loud are the fans? Also read you can't put it in your lap. Can I put a hard covered book on my lap and then put the computer on that, would that be fine?
In no specific Order:

The CPU's are using Hyper-Threading technology already.

Customer service seems to be hit or miss. My personal experience has been good...others have been bad.

It means Depot (or DROP off service) not deposit. You'd have to go to Miami. Lucky me, I go there once a month for business.

It takes about a month right now to get your machine once payment has cleared.

The reason that I puchased the Adrenaline (powerstrip software) is b/c your CPU and Video GPU are covered under warranty if you burn them out due to overclocking. The normal warranty is kind of fishy about overclocking while the Adrenaline covers you 100%.

You cannot extend your warranty once the machine ships.

The color is up to you.

I hear the DVD-RW is Poop. You can do better for less money at Best Buy with an External unit that is faster.

I won't even get into the Nvidia vs ATi debate...read these forums, there are a ton of threads discussing this.

2 Memory slots.

Yes it would be fine with a hard covered book.

The fans are sort of loud. When you first turn it on it is loud. Once it gets to the screen with the XP logo on it with the moving bar at the bottom, the noise from the fans go down a little. Once it's past that screen it gets quieter and that is how loud it usually is. When you're playing games for a while the fans kick in and they are a little louder. I seem to not notice them when I watch movies or play games.

My alienware was $2,596. I used a promotion code.

Could you please list your specs. I will be spending $3,500 on my future green AlienWare laptop and I want to make sure I am not spending to much. I have looked at your profile and read all of your posts. You seem very happy with the laptop.

My specs are in my signature. Anything else. Yes, I am happy with the laptop. It is very good. Get the AlienAdrenaline if you are going to get the laptop. It really improves gaming on my laptop.
