I have a zv6000 and my DVD writer will not write to a DVD any more, it will not even recognize a blank dvd-r or dvd+r. its fine when playing DVD, I have reinstalled windows with all of the drivers. And the dam thing is still not working. Does any body have a solution or is their a secret button that I hit or did something. It burns to CD fine but not DVD

Ok...Well first of all...I have to ask what some might see as a stupid question..but are you POSITIVE you have a DVDRW drive? I mean...their could very well have been some type of a mix up and you ended up with a regular CDRW/DVD-Rom drive. Check your system info to make sure...Also..I know some DVDRWs are picky with brands so you might want to try different brand DVDR/RWs and also update your firmware too.

I have to agree with Animatronica on this one... Have you tried burning a CD-R? We can always check the drives model number and find out what drive you have...

Good question but yes, It is a DVD Writer LOL!!! but the serial number is
(TECH DW-2243-B)

WHY IN THE HE!! DO THEY USE (TECH) AND NOT THIER OWN (HP DVD WRITERS) THAT'S A DAM RIP OFF, (TECH) I REALLY DON'T LIKE ANY DAM WAY, I WOULD RATHER HAVE HP WRITER AND THAT IS WHAT I THOUGHT I WAS BUYING.

We need the model number not SN... I did a lookup on that and i could not find it...

HP has NEVER made their own CD-RW/DVD-RW drives for laptops. Heck they have never even made the CD-ROM or floppy drives for laptops... The Drive may need replacement if its a non-working unit. HP can do it or they can send you the parts sometimes...

Again see about finding the model number or product number and i will look again... You may try writing to a CD-R...

thanks, but screw going back through them for help, can i replace it my slef, i would rather pay for something that is going to last a while not just a couple of days. but I will try to find the serial number

I dont need the serial number i need the model number...

Also they would replace it for free... If you were to get a new part to replace it that matchs it could cost you over $300 for the part alone... I had to pay $202.31 to get a new burner for an Acer not long ago... Trust me its easier if they give you the part which here and there you will fined bad ones... Most are good. I have never had a DVD/CD drive go out in an HP laptop I had an external one go out but when you consider it was smashed by a 600+LB server... That can cause them to go bad ....

hmm... this may sound stupid, but, when you reinstalled the drivers, were the drivers original stock? Did you install the updated drivers from the HP site?

(My laptop had the same problem, it'll burn CDs, and read DVDs, but not burn DVDs, I just updated the firmware... and done, everything was fine)

Yeah..Virtually every computer company doesnt make their own parts(including apple). What thye do is..They contract out other firms to produce the products for them. Then HP,Apple,Dell(etc, etc, etc) will simply assemble rebadge them(and sometimes do basic assembly). Anyway, You could call up HP if you wanted to and push for them to send you out a replacement drive(I suggest making sure its not a firmware issue first like I said originally;check hps site for the most recent). They'll need your credit card though..so just in case you decide not to send back the defect/old part..They will bill you for it. They'll normally ship out the products out next day but some people didnt get that luck and had to wait for standard mail.Just make sure you insist that you are fully capable of doing the swap out..Other wise they'll try and tell you no(which they'll do anyway) and want you to send the computer in for repair.
