Any specs available on the upcoming 8887 screen? I'd love to see that :-) Guess they kept the colors at what it was before on the new 5660 screen... but WOW, it's brighter, has like double the viewing angle, and twice the contrast... Phew...
man, if the 8887 dosen't have a nice screen like the 5660, that would be a bummer--that what you look at all day long!!!

those are some sweet specs on the new 5660 uxga screen

Does anyone know if the brighter screen means a decrease in battery life?
I'm gonna go cry now
Lol, it will only mean a decrease in battery life if you keep it at the higher brightness :-)

The source PCTorque listed does have power consumption specs... if anyone can find the specs from the current screen, a comparison could be drawn.

Comparison to dell 8200

I was curious how this would compare to the DELL 8200 series:

This is from the Dell Website:

http://www.dell.com/us/en/dhs/produc...200.htm#tabtop

Res: 1600 x 1200
Colors: 16.7 Million
Pixel Pitch: .190mm
Brightness: 180 cd/m2 (nits)
Horizontal: +/- 70 degrees
Vertical: +50/-60 degrees
Contrast: 400:1

Looks like the only deficiency of the new screen is Colors, this has been explained before, I didn't understand it when it was explained, but suffice to say, I think based on spec's it'd be hard to say that that new screen could be noticably any worse than the Dell. Heck, I think the old one is great compared any LCD Ive seen. Now just to wait for a review with some pics.

niiiice...now I'm reconsidering the SXGA+ vs. UXGA. Bleh

Still no 16 mil colors though? No matter.

Can the m9 currently handle games at the UXGA native res?

The m9 can't handle UXGA with most of the new games and enhanced settings. I'm not sure how much a difference 128MB would make in this respect since I thought the limitation was with the gpu and not the memory...although more memory isn't a bad thing. It will be interesting to see exactly what if any effect it will have in games. Desktop counterparts haven't shown any significant differences in benchmarks with more RAM(at least the one review I read) In fact the 128MB strangely enough showed a slight decrease in one benchmark over it's 64MB brother
post #11 of 23
Memory will add the capacity for higher texture settings and better framerates for games that require lots of memory.. cuz otherwise the system memory gets used.

The new UXGA on teh 5660 is actually better in some specs than the dell... lol, brighter and better viewing angle... :-)

Has anyone actually seen the new screen yet. Adam?

Wait a sec... the NEW 5660 screen has a wider view than the Dell Ultrasharp?! Awesome! Does this screen tech also go on the 8887?
Lol, unless I read it wrong, it does in specs. The screen on the 8887 should THEORETICALLY be the same just bigger, lol, but that is theory. It may be more standard, but either way, I'm pretty darn sure it will look spectacular (considering the SXGA looked great at 15.7, lol). We'll see though :-) I will not base judgements on preconceived notions.

when is this new 5660 UXGA screen available? Man, my 5660 is not even a month old! Can I trade it back for the new screen?
It is currently shipping...
doh ordered my sager 5660 from powernotebooks last week. Found this board afterwards and see the day before mine with uxga screen on it will arrive that they are giving it a better screen.

My timing is off as always.

I got my 5660

I just got my 5660 in today!

I was worried that I would be dissappointed with the 'old'
screen but it is actually very impressive.

I have Dell Inspiron 7500 about 3 years old and the screen on the 5660 really shines in comparison.

I will say that the 1600 x 1200 is crystal clear but very small on default Win XP settings.

I set the desktop fonts to 125% and enlarged the Icons and this took care of most of the small issues. (did not like the blurred display at the 1280x1024 rez)

So far I have just installed Office XP and Visual Studio and set up my wireless network card.

One other thing that I like about this screen.

NO DEAD PIXELS!!!

It's sweet, but the same size on the 5660. Hopefully some people can comment on it as it starts shipping and getting to the new owners :-)
