Problems w/ my Z70V DVD burner

I know people have reported having problems with the Matshita/Panasonic DVD burners that came with the Z70V. Has anyone figured this problem out and got a solution? I've searched everywhere for updated drivers with no luck.
The problem is, it's not burning at 8X. I have 16X DVD+R's in right now, and it's only showing the option of 2.4X .

Sorry to hear that. What brand of media are you using? Have you tried using other brands? How about the latest firmware? Mine came with a Samsung and it's working fine, even with the cheapest media out there.

Yea, I've tried Memorex and Sony. I did get it up to 4X with the sony media, but they are 8X discs . I've searched everywhere for some kind of firmware updates but have not found any. Sure wish mine came with that Samsung...
Did you get the Z70V or the refresh model?

How long have you had your Z70V? I've read a lot of people are having problems with the Matsushita drive since earlier this year.
