Doom 3 installation problems

OK, I tried searching the forums but nothing came up.

Today I tried installing Doom 3 after I reformated my XPS (See sig for config). It went all the way through each disc. At the end it asked me to insert disc 1, then it sat there and did nothing. I let it sit there for 30 minutes and it did nothing. So I gave my computer the three finger salute and ended the Doom 3 installation. I tried restarting the installation (via Disc 1) and it give me a error of "1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting Runtime." So I manually deleted everything that was installed and I deleted everything from the registry. I keep getting the same error. I have all the current Windows updates and I have the latest Nvidia drivers from Dell. I really don't think that there is a problem with my gpu and its drivers as I recently ran 3DMark05 and got a score of 5115.

Any suggestions about how to clean everything that Doom 3 installed (without reformating my computer) or how to get the installation to work would be greatly appreciated.

Well the error is probably because the installation did not properly close - since it locked or whatever.

How to fix it...hard to say. There could be an embedded registry key that is causing the installer not to work. Does Doom3 show up in Add/Remove Programs?

Note: you may have to contact ID Software to get a fix

Doom 3 does not show up in the Add/Remove Programs control panel. It is really starting to tick me off as I have restarted numerous times. I sent a e-mail to id but I don't know if they will give me support as I have had Doom 3 for over a year. Thanks for the help though.

When you go through all the disc and it ask you to enter disk 1 again did it keep asking you to enter disk1? I had a similar problem but not sure if its related to yours. After I install Doom 3 and it ask me for Disk 1 again the installation would not complete. Though the problem was my dis1 was name "my disc" and cd 2 & 3 was name Doom3_2 and Doom_3 ( I think thats the name of it). Then when it ask me to enter disk 1 it didnt read it because it wasn't name Doom3_1 but "my disc". So maybe if you try to reburn your Doom3 cd 1 and give it a correct name then it'll go through instead of hanging. Not sure if this is gonna help or even on the same subject but at least I try...

As for deleting the file why don't you just delete it manually... I did that from time to time and it run fine.

Did u go through services from black viper or another such site and disable what u didnt need? If u did , u most likely disabled auto read disk or a something like that.

I have not disabled auto read. id software has not got back to me yet, I imagine I won't hear from them until Tuesday. I did manually delete the registry entries and all the files off the hard drive, it did nothing. I am just waiting to play Doom 3 on my new gaming notebook. Will wait and see...

Same thing happened on my friend's Latitude D810. I think the solution was to watch it and make sure the power mode didn't switch when it was installing, but I forget. I just remember that we sat there and watched it install the whole thing
