XPS Gen2 Battlefield 2

Hi, I have a problem and am hoping someone knows a solution. I have an XPS Gen2 which I use as a desktop at home. I have a keyboard, mouse, printer, USB hard drive, VGA out to a CRT monitor (not widescreen), network, and power plugged in when at home. It runs BF2 fine in this situation. However, when I have the laptop with only a mouse and power plugged in and using the laptop screen, BF2 will go to the black screen after the splash and then crash back to desktop after I run BF2.exe. I have tried everything I can think of including making hardware profiles for home/away with stuff that isn't plugged in disabled. I have also tried various twekas and command line settings for BF2 (I know it has no official widescreen support but it should run). Any suggestions? Thanks.

Try searching for a Battlefied 2 patch. I had trouble with Battlefield running at any resolution above 1028X768 on my XPS. I e-mailed EA Games and they responded with a link for a patch. Unfortunately I don't know what patch this is and I deleted the e-mail. I do think that it sucks that this game doesn't have widescreen resolution options.

Use the 2nd patch if you have too, the first one sucks

Anyone have any advice? Once again, BF2 will run fine on just my laptop screen or on just an external monitor, but switching between the two without reinstalling seems impossible. For example, at the moment I can run BF2 only on my CRT monitor and I get a CTD during loading when trying to run on my XPS Gen2 screen. Thanks.

Try fooling around in graphics card's control panel. See if there's a switch by appilication option or something.

XPS2 BF2 fix?

I had the same issue over the weekend, just got an XPS2 myself... I found a posting elsewhere that said the spyware and AV was causing the conflict.
The problem cleared when I deactivated my MacAfee sw. I was then able to run BF2 with out a hitch. To verify I returned it to normal and the problem reoccured. So my fix is to run the game behind my FW with out all the MacAfee then reenable when done.

Peace,
AD

anyone know the tweaks to get it to run wide screen? I see some mentions on but I can't get to the sites due to WebSense being a prick.

One thing you could try is to delete the files in you dmp file. I think this causes BF2 to rest some settings. The files will be in C:\Documents and Settings\user\My Documents\Battlefield 2\dmp I have done this severl times.

I have not heard of anyone running it in widescreen. I did read an interview with a guy from EA who said that not enough of the players use widescreen for the to support it. I wish I had the link for that.

You're all newbs, jk lol

You can run in widescreen res, or any res for that matter. The HUD will still be stretched to 4:3 because they didn't design it for anything else, but the engine itself will be running at the resolution you specify with these command line switches:

+szx 1920 +szy 1200

Put that at the end of your shortcut, changing the x and y values to whatever resolution you want.

This sounds like a problem I had. The default monitor refresh rate might be killing your startup. The startup video settings are stored in the Profiles in the C:\Documents and Settings\user\My Documents\Battlefield 2\ folder. You need to ensure the video settings in the default and user profiles are using a refresh rate of 60.

Hope that helps.
