Do you use a external monitor???

I was wondering how many of you use your XPS/9300 with a keyboard and monitor? I understand it's a laptop, but when you want to settle in for some serious gaming, how does it perform as a desktop unit?

I'm guessing once you see the screen, you'll forget all about external monitors. Mine's much nicer than my Sony trinitron crt, just had to turn digital vibrance on, slightly.

If I am doing some serious gaming on my XPS2 at home(which is rare, I prefer my desktop) I do hook up an external keyboard, I don't like gaming on a lappy keyboard. The only time I have hooked up an external moniter is when I was benchmarking/testing out the laptop when I first got it, I'd moniter temps on the external moniter while running whatever benchmark on the laptops screen.

If I take the lappy somewhere to game, I will also take a keyboard with me.

I know the screen is sweet, but it's 17". At times it's nice to have a big 20" screen to play on.

Good info thanks....I'll have to get a good keyboard no doubt. The one on the 9300 looks way to cramped for gaming.

As games get more taxing I'll probably get a lower-res LCD to use for serious gaming sessions. For now the built-in screen is more than enough for my needs.

I actually bought it to use with a 30" HDTV and a MuVo keyboard

Well i dont know about you guys but i think an external LCD like the Dell 2005FPW looks WAY better then the 17" laptop screen and i'm not just talking about screen size ither. To me the color reporduction just looks much better and the screen is brighter and its also nice to be able to game at 1680x1050 which is a better resolution for GPU taxing games. I love my Samsung 17" WUXGA for portability but it just doesn't beat the quality of a regular desktop LCD.

True, there are lots of monitors that can beat it, but I'm lazy and don't like plugging in lots of cables I use the laptop display because it's convenient and pretty darned good.

Same here, only occasionally use an external monitor when a group of people need to see the output.

I sold my BenQ 17" LCD when I got my XPS2 -- my laptop is all I use (well, I do use a Logitech MX700 mouse (for now, I'm waiting for the G5 to be released and then I'll snap that up).

I'm a web developer and when I am busy working away I have both the laptop screen and a Dell 20" 2001FP LCD monitor running at the same time. I have my code in one screen and a web browser in the other. I've tried gaming on the 2001FP but I prefer the laptop's 17" for gaming since I can boost the rez all the way up to 1920x1200, besides it probably consumes less power anyways...
