How come the Gateway site has no information on this model? I've tried to google it also and no one has any reviews or pictures of it.

That is pretty strange. Closest model on Gateways site is the 7510GX.

seems to be a burst model (released mid-quarter). from what I looked at specs are identical to the 7422GX except with the new x600 motherboard.

It's a mid-cycle release. The retail models usually don't show up on Gateway's site until several weeks after release. Basically, it's the same as the 7510GX, except that it runs the Athlon 64 3400+ instead of the 3700+ and the x600 is a 128MB instead of 256MB card.

Just got mine yesterday. The processor is 130 nm amd athlon 64 3400+ Clawhammer core # AMN3400BIX5AR 62W and not the newer 90 nm core that the 7510gx uses. But it still performs very well and for the price you just can't beat it.

I am not so much into games. I am more into DBA (SQL Server) and speech processing ( a lot of MATLAB and C). For number crunching, its real good.Overall, the machine is real good and probably one of the best values around. The display is preety good. The whites tend to be more on the blue side though. The keyboard doesn't seem to be as good though. It has some flex to it.Also the placement of the HDD is such that u can here it when in action.. The fan kicks in once in a while. But for most part it is fairly quiet. If u want me run something specific, feel free.

Please, go to Start menu, Run, type dxdiag, click ok, go to display tab in dxdiag look for toal memory (VRAM) and let us know what it says! Or post a screen shot! That would be awesome. I wonder if the 128MB might be dedicated if indeed it has 128MB because the specs at BestBuy doesn't mention hypermem.

I just bought this lappy and it does say 64MB, but I've read somewhere that hyper memory can be turned on to make the system recognize the extra 64MB for a total of 128.

To bhavinjo: Best Buy advertised this notebook's CPU as "performs at 2.2GHz", but when I checked, it was only 1.56GHz. Some guys over at the General Notebook section of this forum suggested plugging in the power cord and checking the BIOS to see what it says for the CPU, but I haven't had the time to check yet, since I've been busy with work and haven't had the lap top around. I was wondering, what does it say for your CPU speed? Does it fluctuate when you use your battery? Please let me know. Thanks

ledzepp14, I have a Gateway 7422GX which is just the older version of your laptop, they both use the same CPU. It is very normal for your CPU to not run at 2.2GHz. The CPU throttles itself to save on battery. You can test it easily. Just set the power options to "always on" and plug in the laptop, it will run at 2.2GHz. Also close all open applications, unplug the laptop and set it to "laptop/portable". It will then run at 793MHz.

Cool, thanks for the reply.

It is a feature called PowerNow!. It dynamically switches processor speed and voltage (depending on load) to keep heat down (and therefore noise from fans) and conserve power when on battery. It is very similar (if not identical) to Cool n Quiet on the desktop processors.

It does say 128 but I am not sure if thats dedicated or with hypermemory.

will attach the screenshot but don't seem to have enough rights.

to ledzepp, it does run at full 2.2 GHz depending on req.I am using speedswitch xp and it does the job very well. Also the bios in here is pretty good. Its dated 8/8/05 and it has support for processor c2 and c3 states. In fact the machine is absolutely silent most of the time. The only thing u hear is occasional clicks from the HDD.

Just ran into this since I am considering this one as 1 on my list to purchase, on page 3 someone posted a screen shot showing hyper mem at 256mb http://forum.notebookreview.com/show...4&page=3&pp=10 now thats well worth the price of $999 at BB.
