Please help upgrading the hard drive

Thread Starter
bought my inspiron 9300 pentium M 2.0 2gig of ram 7200 rpm 60gig hard drive. ATI MOBILITY RADEON X300 128Mb

1-probs harddrive space is running short. so first if some can tell me cuz i bought the laptop about 5 months ago. can dell allow me to upgrade the hard drive by paying the diffearance to get a 100GB 5400 rpm or 80 GB 7200 rpm and pay the differenace.

2- Will i be better off buying it from outside. If yes is there a 7200 rpm internal harddive for either 80 GB or 100GB. If yes please can anyone forward the link. pardon me but this would be very stupid but not hardware savy when i search for internal hard dirve on google how do i know that the internal harddrive is it for desktop or laptop what is the differeance between them. If i do find an internal hard drive for laptop how do i know it would work with my 9300. Please any one can give me the link for internal hard drive for 80 to 100gb hard drive that would work with my 9300 that is good quality and cheaper price. and also which company to buy there are tons of companies which one is a better quality?

3- Am i better off getting an external hard drive. which one to get? looking for 250 to 300 gb in that case . or what about getting those external clousre in which u can put internal harddrive would that be cheaper ? I would also like to have links for getting an external clousure and external hard drive that i can find the cheapest.

3- About the video card can i upgrade that or not to 256. is it better to buy it from dell or any other links in that case.

i hope people would be help me out like they have helped others out.

thanks once again.

1 - Dell will definitively not let you "upgrade" your HD cause you already used the one you purchased initially.

2 - Use Toshiba or Hitachi.

3 (1) - If you are running short with space, better check to get an external HD (check if you want much space or good portability).

3 (2) - You have had bought the 256MB GPU in the first place. You better get a new Inspiron 9300 from DELL then upgrading the GPU (you can only buy it from DELL (or from someone who bought it from DELL)).

I have upgraded my ATI x300 to the 6800go on a 9300. I ordered it through dell. You Have to call Dell Refurbished parts. 800-449-3355 ext 7269937 part number W5373. I got it for $320.00

Check with the "major" hardware vendors (new... & zipzoom...) for pricing on hdd's as they will be cheaper than buying "direct" and they also sell enclosers...

Here's a link for a hitachi 80GB 7200 RPM lappy drive... It's on backorder but still an "option"...

Personally I have never tried a Seagate, but I really like their warranty...
