Mythtv

Thread Starter
I got MythTV working quite nicely, all modules including weather, dvd, music, radio, recording live TV. The set up is as follow:

AMD Athlon 2000+
256 pc2700 DDR
2.6.0-test9 + debian patches ( 2.6.X needed to support AGPv3.0 natively )
Debian Sid
Hauppauge WinTV Express bt878 chipset TV card
MySql 4.0.16
ATI Radeon 9200 SE Dual VGA + Tv Out 128 MB agpx8
Ati fglrx 3.2.8
MythTV 0.12 ( www.mythtv.org )

Was wondering if anybody has tried that on a 888X or 90 sager and how the bttv chipset of the tv tuner works under linux.

LaClasse,
It's been a long time since I weighed in here. I installed MythTV a while back and ran it with no problems on my 8887. I even had it record a couple of programs for me. The only problem was that the recorded shows didn't play on any other software (at the time).

I don't use it regularly as I have built a separate HTPC w/ the following specs:

Windows XP Media Center Edition - I wouldn't use this if I were going to do it again
amd 2400XP
512MB DDR 2700
PlayTV PVR (MPeg2 - encoding on the hardware and FM Radio Tuner)
NVidia 128MB 5200 chipset (for the S-Video Out)
Soyo Ultra Platinum
2 x 80 GB Drives for Media - Can always use more
Saitek PC3000 Wireless JoyStick
Motorola Wireless Keyboard w/ Built-in Mouse
Tons of whisper-quiet fans
Codecs, Codecs, Codecs for av encoding and playback.

My only real complaint ... Digital Cable. I don't have an IRBlaster to change my digital cable box, so tuning channels above 120 is pretty much out of the question. I have to tune in and record the high # Digital channel or manually or stick to the analog cable channels. I have the digital and analog signals split at the cable box and ported into separate video tuner and audio jacks). Awkward, but it works.

Anyway, the thing ended up costing way more $ than I originally expected it to. I actually burned up a cpu during the construction phase of the project.
