Ok, I ordered the GN-WIAG02 now instead of the Atheros. Looks like it's a good card too. I bought from that same ebay guy. Can't wait to install it.

It's an Atheros card. :-) It's the one I have. The chipset is Atheros which is all that counts. Good choice!

Specifically, the GN-WIAG02 uses the Atheros 5005 which is the latest Atheros chipset other than the 5006 which is simply a 5005 with the addition of 802.11a.

I have a D-Link 624 and I hate it. I stopped using it as a router and now solely use it as a WAP. I hope to purchase a Linksys WAP to go along with my Linksys Router when I can find it for less than $70.

The most recent firmware updates for the DI-624 seem to have solved a lot of the problems we've had with D-Link's router. The fact that it has taken nearly two years for the bugs to be worked out is inexcusable though.

I use a Linksys router, which means I can't use the Super-A/G my Atheros wifi card supports. But the Atheros never drops my connection like the 2200BG did. I sometimes watch streaming media from my media center PC, and the Intel card sucked for this. The Atheros performs flawlessly.

I can't find which Atheros chipset that usese. Sorry.

I have a D-Link wireless router, a 526 I think, that works fine. As long as you have the latest firmware for your router, you'll probably be fine.

Dell could declare the warranty void IF, and only if, your mod was in some way the proximate cause of the problem or was incidental in creating it. You have the right to do whatever you want with your personal property.

You could also raise the defense of an adhesive contract. That is a contract where one party offers a contract to another party on a “take it or leave it basis”. These are contracts (agreements/warranties) where there is a huge inequality in bargaining power (i.e. Dell v. you).

You should also consider that ALL contracts must be reasonable (the most commonly used word in law) and are interpreted in the light most favorable to the party that DID NOT draw it up. This arises from the assumption that if the construing party had desired a particular meaning, it would have specified it in the contract.

Ok, I got the GN-WIAG02 now and it works way better than the Intel 2200BG. I can play BF2 now without dropping every 10 secs.

I got a warning about this card not beeing signed by something when installing it, but I did install it anyway. The only thing that bugs me is that I cant get windows to handle the connection, I need to use the Gigabyte tool. If I select Windows to handle the connection it won't connect...there a solution to this ? I mean I can live with Gigabyte handling it, I'm just curious.

Yeah I've been super pleased with my Atheros. 0 dropped connections since getting rid of the 2200 piece of shit.

BF2 runs perfectly, can't even tell it's on a wireless connection

Uh, yes?

Try the new drivers before writing off your card...and evidently your warranty as well.
You've obviously never done this before. You don't have to take off the keyboard. Just open up the communications pannel on the bottom, and replace the Craptel card with the Atheros card. If the machine has to go back to dell, just do a little swap-a-roo.

Here is a link to Dell's instructions for replacing the wireless NIC. LINK

Here is a note from that page:

"2.4-GHz Wireless LAN PC Cards may be removed and installed by the user."

Since when has upgrading a user-upgradeable part ever voided a warranty unless you broke the seal on a sticker that said, "Warranty void if sticker removed"?

And if you plan to remove your keyboard to replace your WiFi card, have someone else do the job for you. ;-)

Doc, I love you.

Anyone got Windows to handle the connection ? I still have the Gigabyte / Atheros tool doing it and I'm not sure it's even possible with this card.

I just installed the Toshiba driver from:

http://www.phoenixnetworks.net/atheros.php

Used the regular driver, not the application/etc. stuff.

Installed the driver, shut down, installed the card, booted up, XP found it and worked with Windows controlling it. No support/application software is installed.

is that for the gigabyte gn-wiag02 ?
Don't see why it wouldn't...hope you have another computer to get online with if it doesn't work...

nothin' wrong with with the D-Link DI-624... it's built on an Atheros chip so it works great with Atheros... that's the combo i use on my other notebook... it's a D-Link DWL-G650 PC Card...

the best i've found for my XPS is the D-Link DI-784 and the Intel 2915abg using the A band... just as good with either Windows or the Intel utility controlling it...

it doesn't interfere with my wireless phones anymore, never drops a connection and always stays at 54mbps...
