External mouse

I have a Dell Inspiron 8500, and I was just using a standard Logitech Optical mouse. I am now using a Microsoft Wireless Intellimouse Explorer. It works great, except for when I take my laptop somewhere without the mouse. Installing the Microsoft mouse driver disabled the extra functions of my touchpad - most notably the scrolling when you use the very edge. Is there any way to use both my Microsoft mouse and my laptop touchpad with the features of both?

Try installing the MS drivers (though you shouldn't need them unless you're using some extra function on the MS software), then installing the touchpad drivers.
