I'm still in phase #11 and I ordered right around the time you did if I'm not mistaken...we're still within the 3-4 week window they quoted.
Craig, I have noticed that you seem to stick up for Alienware a lot (the dual-channel issue comes to mind) and while I really have no problem with that you have to realize that a lot of people come to these forums wanting to learn both whats good as well as whats bad about these laptops. It is also true that a lot of people have been complaining about the washed-out displays and crappy wireless card. If that has made him (Toolbox) change his mind or at least question whether he wants to stick with his order or not, then why should he not cancel his order? He is going to have to pay a 10% restocking fee if he decides to return it after it ships and with a $3000 laptop that comes to $300. I would say he better be sure that he really wants this thing.
Toolbox: I have had the laptop for a day now and am a little disappointed so far. The first time I booted the machine up I got two error messages and the computer could not detect the wireless card. I had to reinstall the drivers for the wireless and its now working. However, it is unable to pick up a signal in my room. The router in the basement is too far away for the card to pick up it seems. In contrast, my friend's Dell gets a good signal in the very same room.
I have to say my biggest disappointment so far have been the display and the speakers. Honestly, both the sound and display quality are better on both my friend's Dell d800 and my mother's Inspiron 8600 (not meaning for this to sound like a Dell commercial but its the only thing I can compare it to). The sound even at max volume is not very loud so I am probably going to be using external speakers or headphones (if I decide to keep it).
On the positive side of things this is hands down the best looking laptop you will ever lay eyes on. The pictures really dont do justice to how awesome this thing looks. The keyboard and chassis build-quality are both top-notch (especially when compared to Dell). I also have to say that the display is still good, its just worse than Dell. I guess that the main reason I am a little disappointed is that for a laptop that is being sold as the ultimate gaming machine I would have expected more impressive sound and maybe a slightly better display. All the problems I had out-of-box also made me curious as to what the hell Alienware was doing with my laptop for the whole 2 weeks it was in quality control.
