Well i don't have my alienware now and I don't own a sager so maybe i can't compare them.

However i cant tell you 2 things that are true for sure.

The Sager is a far better machine than the alienare if your are looking the hardware, technical support and warranty policy. Sager is simply an enormous company compared with alienware and in fact they are the biggest and largerst reseller of those particular notebooks.

The Alienware is a bit less powerfull however you get a product that has a look and style that simply set you apart, It might be slower, maybe warranty and service isn't that good, but you get a product that most of your friends and coworker will simply say "WOW".

And well I have to say that I have been working with computers for 14 years, and I always assembled my computers searching for the best price.

And because of that I truly understand the people that defend Sager. But they also have to understand that those 500 us$ more that you pay for an alienware is not because you are expecting something faster, is because of the fact that the LOOK of the computer makes an statement that simply makes you feel good.

The bottom line if you want the fastest laptop get a Sager if you want the better looking look for alienware, if you are afraid of alienware try hypersonic-pc or voodoo.

well i hope that this helps

cya around guys

This Thread has a Life of its own...

Ok had to chime in on a few topics -

1 - Dead pixel Policy - Sager will replace the display if you have a 1 dead pixel in the center of your screen. I called a few folks and found that it’s really up to who ever you purchased the laptop from - they will look at the dead pixel and determine if its covered under replacement within the first 30 days ONLY!. They state CENTER because they feel that's where a dead pixel would be the most annoying to the end user.

2 - AW folks saying they went with AW because they are a big company - Kind of makes me laugh especially when they turn around and state that SAGER is a mom and pop. Last time I looked Sager sold a couple more PC's than our little company in Miami. Again I think this is a poor reason to choose this niche product. Sure I want my toothpaste to come from a large multinational - but my Day-GLO green laptop with blinkey EYE's...?

3 - Why folks choose AW over Sager - (Based on extensive case studies and... ER... stuff I read in this forum)

1 - Style
2 - Newer Case - Slimmer (again back to style)
3 - User upgradeable GPU (This is real since I could buy the NVIDIA offering and take my ATI's out) - hope we will see the next gem vide modules early next year + or - 2 weeks of course.
These are the big ones - and I'd argue that #1 gets most folks into the AW camp in the first place and after talking to the Corp folks at AW they know it TOO.

Those are the CLEAR reasons I decided to do business with another white box vendor - (Alienware) - they provide some Value Add to the white box game and therefore differentiate themselves just enough to earn my business.

Anyway - even with all the bickering in some of these threads – I still find way more good information being passed amongst folks in this forum than in the AW forums... IMO of course ;-0)

gr8gatzby, its nieve to think that three years from now a small outfit like Sager is going to offer you a new system board/GPU upgrade.

They would loose their shirts trying to maintin a product lifecycle for antiquated equipment. Not to mentioon the fact that an entire mobo change out will be in the 1k's versus a couple hundo on a new GPU.

That's a horrible policy, just horrible. Anytime you leave anything to determination of someone else you're gonna loose. And any dead pixel, center or not is annoying. Just horrible.....

1 Silver - and 2 Green's to keep it company:)

Mechanic - 2 G's and 1 Silver.

Note - the Green's just don't go with my gray suit even when I accessorize with my green socks .

Sager - or how about....

http://secure.hypersonic-pc.com/scri...id=Aviator_AX6

I'm waiting to hear how the AX6 is - one of the forum members has one on order and expects delivery next week. This might be a good one to look at.

I plan to pick one up if the HPYE is realized.

it would be indeed naive to assume that Sager(or any company) would offer any service at a loss to it's bottom line. we can also be no more certain that Sager will offer the upgrades 3 years down road than AW offering upgradable GPU's 3 days down the road. i don't quite understand yer beef...Sager's been doing the upgradable mobo's for years, AW, on the other hand, has been offering upgradeable GPU's for, say, 6 months?

...being unbiased and an AW owner...I have to say that gr8gatzby is correct...I think it is very fair to say that there is no guarantee that there will be any upgrades for either 3 years from now...the future is always uncertain...we're not dealing with the giant computer manufacturers...and as for the size of Sager...I believe they actually do more volume than AW and could be larger if not equal in size to AW...I could be wrong though...

I know a lot of people who love their Compaq laptops and others who think their Dell is it! The point is how can we knock someone else's lappie if it suits them perfect?

Sager, AW, Toshiba, Apple, whoever...just be happy with your purchase and always do your research so you can assess which notebook suits your needs the best!

I would get that hypersonic AX6 if the ATI was 128MB.

Well said....

I'm hungry.

I am saying that far less is involved in making a bolt in GPU than an entire mobo. Here is the main issue, many of the parts required to make new motherboard compatable with an older chassis and screen system may not be available except at enormus cost, that cost being passed on to the end user of course. Plus then you have to decide if it's worth the R&D time to make such a product, and then to make a profit on it. This is the part I doubt will happen, again cost versus profit.

On the other hand you have a GPU made by another vendor that has assumed the R&D cost on their end, you then have some simple engineering to mate it to the edge connector. Having taken the GPU out of mine already I can tell you that any mill spec certified technician could make one.

It's the age old proprietry issue that has plagued notebook and OEM pc manufactures. AW may be the fist company addressing this on a large scale.
