Should I feel bad?

Thread Starter
I just bought a m680x, and my friend who bought an HP from last year says his is better. Not only that he says he bought for 1800, while mines was 1800 as well.

He says he has a Athlon 64 3000+ 2.0 ghz processor, 512 mb ram (DDR), 64 geforce 5200, and a 80 gb 4200 hard drive.

my specs are Pentium M 1.86 Ghz, 512 mb ram (supposedly DDR2), 128 mb radeon x700, and a 80 gb 5400 hard drive.

Does the Athlon 64 3000+ beat the Pentium M 1.86 ghz processor?

Can anyone show me any benchmark tests that show which is better?

hmm the 1.86 should do better than the 3000+, not sure by how much, but the 3000+ is pretty old. but the x700 blows that GeForce FX right out of the water.

Although he will not be able to run Windows XP 64 anytime soon.

You have a much better laptop. CPU's are about even in speed, however you have a better hard drive, and a MUCH better video card. You should have much better battery life too. I suggest that you and your friend both install 3Dmark and bench them, yours will wipe the floor with his.

I can chime in on this one. I had a 5200fx ultra on my desktop and scored 948on 3dmark01. (Overclocked I got like 1090.) (I might be confusing this with 03, but I'm pretty sure it was 01.) With the x700 I scored 17550 on 3dmark01.

That most certainly was with 03. I have an old GeForce4 4600Ti that does ~8500 out of the box in 01 and got over 13k after some serious tweaking and oc'ing. End result is still the same ... an x700 is far superior to a 5200

That was with 3DMark '03, with a stock FX5200 (non ultra) on my desktop with an AXP 2000+ I scored 7500 in 3DMark 2001se.

Edit: Are you sure it was a 5200 Ultra? My 5200NU got 1500 stock on 3DMark '03. Your scores are about what a 64bit 5200 gets.

Yup I have the 128mb FX5200 Ultra. Computer specs:
1.2GHz AMD
512mb
80GB 4200rpm
4x AGP slot, not 8x
