I have a 9860 3.4 P4, 2GB RAM, ATI X800, dual 60GB drives, WinXP SP2. I have owned this unit for about 5 months.
2 nights ago while playing Worlds of Warcraft the game froze on me. I didn't think much about it. Had to hard boot the system to get it to come back up. Started the game again and within a few minutes it did it again.
I tried HalfLife 2 to make sure this was not something with WOW and it did the same thing to me. The system now hangs for a minute then will reboot.
I have tried the following:
I uninstalled the ATI Driver using the uninstall utility from the ATI website.
I reinstalled the latest ATI driver. I also tried this sequence and installed the driver that came with my laptop.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the games.
Reinstalled Directx.
Reinstalled all drivers for the laptop that came on the supplied CD.
I tried putting the system back from a Windows XP restore point from before the trouble started.
I know this thing gets extremely hot while playing 3D games, could it be that the video card or some other component could have been damaged? Laptop seems to run fine while just in windows and surfing the web and such.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!
