I was all ready to order my 51m...but im really starting to worry about these problems im reading about. Just how many people are having problems with the display washout and all other problems? Seems like if one had them everyone would. Is it a rare thing or do most people have it? On a side note, i dont feel like i should be paying 3500 bucks for something i have to worry about. Anyways...whats the deal

The Wahsed out Display is only a bad config Problem
Hii have found this Post I don't now where i have found this Post but this must work:
Quote:
| HI ALL, I do have a fix for the Washed out Display you are experiencing. The problem lies in the display settings. They are set to default by the video drivers. I have the best settings for both the ATI and the NVIDIA card. What you will need to do is to go in the display properties, by right clicking on the desktop>properties>Setting>Advanced. For ATI click on the Color Tab and set it as: _ Gamma : 0.70 _ Brightness : -20 _ Contrast : 115 For Nvidia Card, click on Color Correction located under Geforce Go 5600 tab: Set the Gamma at : 0.70 and slightly lower the brightness ( what I mean by Slightly is push the tab to the left just a little bit like you barely moved it). With those settings you should get the best Resolution for your LCD. Have a nice day!!!! |
you must only Search the Forum ther is a solve fore the Problem!!!
I think Alienware is not bad and you can Buy yours!!
I am still waiting see Signature

Hey GF,
I would advise you not make a purchase decision based on what you read on this, or any other forum.
Forums such as these are, for the most part, an outlet for people that have problems, and want to get opinions/advice/options/answers from other users.
You don't normally see a multitude of entries relating to how much an individual loves their laptop (or whatever), since they are likely spending the majority of free time enjoying their new toy.
I do Server support at IBM, and if I based my opinion of our product soley on the calls that i deal with on a daily basis, I would never buy an IBM Server.
In the six plus years I've been doing this I've never had someone call to tell me everything works fine and they love their Server.
But having personal experience with our products as well as many of our competitors, I think IBM makes some of the best there is (biased opinion, I know).
There is no such thing as a perfect product. If you go to a Rolls Royce dealership you'll notice they have a service department. So even if you spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on something there is no guarantee it'll always work.
Hope this helps with your decision, or at least gets you to look at other ways to make an informed one...

On a posotive note!
I got my laptop last thursday and all i can say is good things about it although i don't have a wireless network yet to try out the network card eveything else works perfectly althought the drivers where a little shaky at first i downloaded the new ati divers and all was good ,the wash out was gone. All my games work great althoght they are mostly older games such as wolfenstein jediknigt 2 and serious sam. All these games run like the wind on this thing. I did downloaded the halo demo and the DX:invisible war demo both run great!. I have my dual monitors set up and my mp3 playlist loaded and now i have portalbe jukebox with about 1,000 songs on it. I did have one prblem with the sound being very soft but I figured out this thing has like 3 different sound controls on on the side one with the fn key and one of the number buttons and the one on the system tray plus I have the logitech wireless keyboard wich also has a volume control on it after all these where tweaked everyting looks sounds and plays great worth every bit of the mony i paid for it besides the ladies love'em!!!Dual monitors!!

7.91 is the new driver!
I got that confused to at first if you go to alienware driver and resource downloads and you selectWindows xp
mobile
ati
ati mobility radeon series
you will find the 7.93 drivers are for the older mobile radeons like the 7000 to 9000 series
but if you input
windows xp
mobile
alienware corp
area-51m (new model)
You will get all the updated drives you need for your system even the correct ati drivers. (I got no wash out with these)!
