Is 64bit OS gonna be faster on slower CPU than 32bit OS on faster ?

(Just asking, From what I've heard 64bit OS (windows) are not faster than 32bit ones)

Turion notebook lasts shorther and is slower than Centrino.
Are the price and/or AMD FANism the only reasons ?

The main reason to buy a Turion notebook is the 64Bit support and a bit AMD fanism . It has also to do with national pride (Austria/Germany). The AMD processors (except cutting and packaging) are produced in Germany (Fab30 and Fab36 in Dresden) and so the purchase is my little part to support the German economy.
The performance of each processor is almost the same and the battery runtime is not a main buying reason for me. If I remember it correct, Tomshardware stated that the Turion runs slightly longer under heavy load. Correct me if I am wrong.

Bye

Oh yes --- BUT ... a question!

Now, this is what I've been waiting for. For 1 and a 1/2 years! Been using an old 350 MHz Pentium 2 PC since my lappy died in 2004 ... and it has been an ordeal. Was really really tempted to buy the Dell ... have even spoken to them on the phone. Past experiences made me hesitate though ... thank God.

Now, I hope - really, really, and with all my heart - that PCTorque / Sager will offer the 0 dead pixel guarantee option on this one. If so, I'm a buyer. Of at least one, and perhaps more systems.

LUKE --- can you lobby for that option to be available? Please!

rethyre (who has been a lurker on this forum for a looong time)

This one notebook looks like it is trying to compete directly with Dell's Xps2. Looks good, I just don't want a p4 in a notebook anymore. Especially the prescots.

With an MCE option this might just be an ASUS W2v killer......

I have a feeling someone didn't read the article he posted:

From a battery life perspective, the Turion 64 was clearly inferior to the competition based on Intel technology. But then only when the CPU is lightly loaded, as when running a typical set of Office applications. When applications put more demand on the CPU, the difference in battery life among these systems narrows noticeably. And if the CPU and graphics components are purposely maxed out, as when gaming, the tables turn completely as our results showed, and the Intel system falls behind.
A NBF thread that goes over the details of this very article here:

it could be with an included tv tuner.... looks like they are gunning for the dell 9300, the xps2, toshiba qosmio, and the W2V all at the same time. i want to see what this machine will do in person but i think it is looking promising. now we really need a release date for it, and a speculated price....

I've seem october 15th somewhere, perhaps this iwll coinicide with Dell upgrading the XPS.

Perhaps the laptop companies are in cahoots and synchronise their upgrade schedules to allow for more money to be made? Or, more likely, I'm in my conspiracy mood today.

i would like oct 15th for sure... this is a model that interests me alot and i would like to see it out soon...

If only this baby had come out sooner. I'm enjoying my XPS2 and feeling good about my choice especially with the deal I got, but this looks pretty solid. And it's got a numpad. wtf was dell thinking?

You now if u press the function key there is numpad within the alphabet (J is 1)...

Anyways, nice to see the pentium m in another gaming notebook. The Turions are inferior to the pentium m's in gaming and battery life. They have a slight advantage in things like encoding but the only reason you would get one is for its 64 bit, which wont be important for years.

Are you kidding?? I would hope so

We has analyzed this very thoroughly dozens of times over the last 10 months with the conclusion they are almost exactly the same in performance. For battery life under load (not idle) the Turions definitely outperform the P-M. You should do a search here to read up on them.
