Selling my Sentia: Advice?

Hey everybody. yes, it's true, I'm selling my Sentia. What you may ask am i getting to replace it? Acer C314XMi... it's a tablet.

Why am i selling? I am very unhappy with Alienware. Tech support sucks, customer service sucks, and I don't like my machine.
Is there anything wrong with it? no, not really. i mean everything works fine. the battery lasts a long time, there aren't any dead pixles (well maybe 1), it runs fine, there are a few small scratches on the front of the case, but i'm just sick of it. On top of all that, i really need a tablet for school. i love taking notes on my computer but math equations and graphs aren't the easiest thing to try to draw out with a touchpad.

I had to send it in 3 times the first 6 months i owned it, but since then it hasn't caused any problems. the first time i had to send it in, the left touch pad key broke off. the second time when i plugged it in sparks could come from inside the computer, and the third time it just died.
the first time it didn't take to long to fix, they just had to put a new key in. the second time it didn't take too long, it just needed a new internal power supply, but the third time they needed to replace the motherboard, which was on backorder and it took 3 months.

but anyway, i need some advice on selling this thing. I think i'm going to put it up on ebay.
It's a 14.1" Sentia (i think that's the 244 series). It has a 1.7 GHZ Pentium M, Centrino (802.11b), 80 GB HDD, 1024 MB Ram, CD-RW/DVD drive and it's blue.
How much should i ask for it? i was thinking start around $700-$900, a reserve of at least $1100 and a buy it now of maybe $1700.

When I bought the thing it cost me $2400, it's only a year and a half old and in excellent condition. I'll be selling it with a matching blue MS/Alienware mouse AND an Alienware messenger/computer bag. I have all the original information/manuals/cds. I recently re-downloaded all the drivers and will burn them onto a cd to include with it, and i will do a full wipe of the HDD and run the recovery disk before i sell it.

if anyone has any pricing suggestions or selling tips, please let me know. i've been looking on ebay and seen similar Alienware laptops, just as old with less HDD, ram, CPU going for like $1500, so i don't think i'm asking too much.

Thanks,
Ed

hmm well its sad your selling it. its an awsome machine. seeing that you spent so much which u got ripped off because i got the specs in my sig for 2100 including a backpack and extra battery pack. anyways i would start it ar 1100$ and reserve at 1800 and buy it now for 2000$ thats ur best bet for aw and reason to take off the 400 because u had it for awhile and there are scratches which suck beacause the case scratches easily. why not a HP tablet, hp makes very good computers alot better than acer.

I am not all that happy with mine either but stick with it for a little and see how it is, i went thru my ups and downs with my sentia.

If you guys want something that looks as sweet as a Sentia, the same size, but can play games like half life 2 at high settings, far cry and doom 3, go with a sony vgn s360. Stay away from the s380, either customize the s270 if you still can (not sure if its discontinued or not) or get a s360 at best buy with the rebates they offer. I don't mean to thread crap if I am, just helping out some guys who are in the same boat that I was in.

wow, it's really not. for being a thin and light geared towards college students, it's really fragile. basically everything on it sucks, and the customer service is horrible.

For starters i don't even know what part of that means, and it doesn't explain anything. what specs? mine is a second generation, they cost that much. i didn't get "ripped off" because anyone who bought one at the same time would have had to pay the same. alienware recently started lowering prices and including extra crap because they suck at getting their computers out and they needed to try to keep up with other computer companies that sell for cheaper.

bullshit. HP computers suck. i had one (Pavillion laptop) for a while, and it was horrible. now most "HP" computers are really Compaq anyway, which is horrible. When you buy alienware, or HP, toshiba, IBM, even Dell or Gateway you're paying for a brand name. There really isn't a huge difference in hardware anyway, you end up paying for the name and for customer service. oh and also... Acer made the first ever tablet convertable, so i'd think they're a little ahead of the curve at this point.

Bhertz - i know there's no way i'm getting 2Gs for this thing. i have a feeling the extreme high end would MAYBE be $1700, but probably more like $1500. And I will try to remember to keep you informed how the selling goes.

back to -st-, i have to reiterate: this is not an awesome machine. mine was fully loaded (excluding DVD+R/RW drive) when i bought it, and i've never been really happy. maybe the first 10 days. yea, i've had my ups and downs with it, but when it's 80% downs and 20% ups over the course of 18 months, it's not worth it anymore.
Even if i had paid $2100 and gotten a free backpack and battery, or whatever you were babbling about (it's hard to understand your posts) there have still been too many problems and disappointments for me to have paid that much money for the kind of service i've recieved, and the quality of product i got.
maybe other people who aren't quite as computer saavy as i am (or don't know anything about computers at all) would think that it's a great machine, powerful, light, good size and durable, but i've owned and used my fair share of computers, and aside from having the name "alienware" (who, btw, do make great desktops) and looking kind of cool, i would have to rank this computer pretty low if anyone ever asked me. I already CANNOT reccommend anyone to ever buy an alienware laptop.

you share my views to the fullest scud muffin. good luck selling. hp has got some nice notebooks. a few(actually 3) of my friends have r4000's. and they love them.
Scudmuffin i was mostly talking to bhertz about that stuff sry lol but i understand what ur sayin. theres tons of people who may not like the sentia and tons of people who may not like acer tablets everyone had their own opinion and i respect urs.
I would look at other alternatives to the Acer. Acer has the worst customer service. It was either PC World, PC Mag or maybe Maximum PC (I get so many damn PC mags) that just did a rating of customer servic of the big computer manufacturers and the report on Acer was horrible, the worst by far.

Good luck!

me thinks scudmuffin didnt do his homework b4 buying his laptop and now wants to blame the shortcomings of Alienware, its products and services, for his lack of ability in educating himself properly b4 makeing a buying decision of this magnitude.
alienwares arent supposed to suck. the image he based his decision on says they're quality machines. and their customer service was supposed to be good. he says he had to send it in 3 times in 6 months. sounds like some machine failure going on there.

man im telling you, you guy must not have that high of standards. i dont see anything good in the sentia except its small light and portable.

That's the idea, small, light and portable(That's why i got it,), if you're looking for hardcore gaming this is not the right machine for you. If you want something for gaming get high processor speed, ram and video, at least 128 better if you can get 256.

No, you wont be able to get that with a sentia 12".

The only downs i have its that i paid to much, the case its made in china, which i dont mind and cant complain about it, but that shows the machine as a cheap machine, also plastic seem to be to flemsy, but my computer didnt brake yet, might be cuz i take care of it, any computer can break, if you want unbreakable stuff get something made of magnesium.(Panasonic could be the answer)anyway price too high with less specs.

Wtf, im happy with my machine, so far . The problems i had with it i solved them. And why does everybody care that much about the customer service, is it that hard to do a research on yourselves, play around with your machine, learn from others??
I've reached customer service a couple of times, but because i was lazy and didnt want to fool around by myself, and they were good, i mean they aren't super geeks or anything but they put you on hold and they come with an answer.

i know it isnt a gaming computer. ive already stated thats not why i bought it. 2200 for a thin and light. thats rather high.

about their customer service. i had a cracked screen. play around wth stuff and fix that yourself, dont call alienware, then let me know how it goes.
