r u sure about the installation not being a problem? it is painstaking and u need a specific tool to make it as "easy" as possible. having put in a 7k60 in mine, feel free to PM me w/ any questions.
if u r putting in a new drive i'd recommend a fresh install for your new drive. make sure when u get to the installation segment of the install that u choose custom. u can cut down quite a bit on what u install, like unneeded drivers and language packs. unless u have another notebook which u have the "old" drive slotted for, i'd recommend picking up an external drive enclosure, preferrably firewire as it only needs one cable to power the drive. USB drives, even those that claim to be powered over the data cable work less reliably than those which take up 2 USB slots (power and data).
i have this one
which is fast on the firewire (20+ mb/s), while the USB is slower (~12 mb/s). but for the money it's a pretty good deal. having firewire on both my machines means it hasn't been an issue, and the USB, when needed on friends' computers has gotten me by just fine.
if u want a sharp one that's more iBook-like here's
a pretty a sweet one which is notably more expensive, and i can't tell u what the performance is like.
in any case, once u have the enclosure u could migrate any data over that u need.
