Can anyone think of a reason why the screen would suddenly go black or blank, by simply placing it gently from your lap to the couch? It is on AC power. Could there be some type of short?

After a 2nd day of use, I have narrowed down the problem slightly. The is something loose on the bottom of the laptop.
Again we have it on AC power. But the screen goes off if any pressure is applied to the bottom. Even when we move its position from lap to a soft cushiony couch or ottman the screen cuts off. The battery seems to be in solidly, but what can I look for that would cause a short like that?
