A51m 7700 + Logitech z5500 + SPDIF "Review"

This is technically not a review, it is just my experience with the z5500 plugged throught a digital connection (SPDIF).

I have the speakers plugged in with both cables, because it is a 5.1 system, the analog uses three plugs, and the digital uses the other plug.
Comparing both connections, the analog one sucks really bad compared to the spdif: there is almost no bass and the volume is very low. The decoder goes to 96/24 using both plugs, using the SPDIF the system really makes the internal audio shine (not as well as with an audigy). Also, u can use the SPDIF to send DTS and Prologic signals output through and the system recognizes them on the fly. The only problem i experienced was when playing the beggining of a movie, when it changes between the different audio formats the speakers crackled a bit.
I seriously recommend going SPDIF if you cant get an audigy, or better you can get the audigy and go SPDIF too.
Another observation is that going SPDIF, the computer's volume controls don't work for the speakers, and also you have to turn off because they dont turn off when spdif (you can do this in the volume control by lowering the front level).

Conclusion: These are great speakers and they ROCK and go SPDIF...

>another thing: SPDIF just outputs 2 channels, only dvds output multichannel through SPDIF...anyone know how can I output surround sound through spdif in a game like CSS????
>Resolved "issue": Connect both analog and digital and change to analog when going to play, and change to spdif for dolby and 2 channel streams
>Audio Drivers 1.24 seem to kill my sub & center output...went back to 1.23 and fiddled with settings and output came back

Heres how i have connected them:
Wires:
-Included ones
-Miniplug to RCA (Those that have a miniplug in one end and two rcas in the other)
Set up the realtek for 6 channels and SPDIF as shown:
http://img138.imageshack.us/my.php?i...titled18oc.gif
http://img138.imageshack.us/my.php?i...titled23rm.gif

Now connect wire included with the three miniplugs as intructed on the realtek (front port1, sub/center port2, back port4), then plug them accordingly into the reciever.

Then get the miniplug-rca, plug the miniplug into port3, then place connect change your system into coax input and put some music, plug in the red cable, the speakers should detect a digital signal and start playing, if it doesn't try plugging in the white cable, im using the red one, but i've read some people use the white one.

Now you have both an analog and digital connection to your speakers, when you are using a 2 channel source like music, and also DVDs (for dolby digital and DTS output to the reciever) use the COAX input, to play a game or another multichannel source not capable of outputing multichannel thorugh the SPDIF, I use the analog connection.

I hope I explained myself well
