Iam getting I6000 !!!! Questions.....

I decided the i6000 over the 9300, I dont need the larger screen nor the graphic card. Like i said before, I will use it for web desing and music production, My sound will come from 600.00 studio monitors, I will run cubase on it.
Questions:

1 - the coupon, though i think its a bit of a scam, because no way is a i6000 worth 2200-2400 bucks, they label it like that so when you use the coupon, it makes it seem like you are saving 750$ when you are really getting it for what its really is worth. you can get a laptop with the same specs for like the 1300-1400. nonetheless, should i wait til after sept 7th for the new coupons?
are common are these coupons? once a year? twice? has it even gotten better than 750 off or 40% off?

2 - What is the difference between a I6000 and I6000d?

3 - it the media center a novelty ?

thank you.

i6000 = intregrated graphics
i6000d = dedicated graphics (x300)

media center = just a upgraded xp pro.
post #3 of 20
for the 9300, media center is a free upgrade and pro is 119 dollars more. whats up with that?
post #4 of 20
I thought media center was an upgraded Home edition not Pro.

what about these so-called coupons?

I bought refurb, a mach that ( when i priced it out ) was worth almost 2000 dollars, and i got it for $1247, so i got about 750 dollars off, just because it was refurbished, Plus, the machiene itself was only 3 months old when i bought it. Apparently someone has leased it, and sent it back.

No, MCE is an upgraded version of Pro.

The coupons really depend on when you want to buy. If you have to buy now, don't wait. If you have the time to wait, wait.

anyone know how to utilize the front media buttons with winamp? I'm guessing I need a utility to do so, and I formatted all the Dell stuff off first thing...
post #11 of 20
search "Multimedia Buttons" and look for a post that was created by me. It worked on my 8600 and it should work on the 6000d. I would search for you but I'm doing hw right now.. lol
post #12 of 20
will do, thanks. I did a search for front buttons or something and got nothing.

actually, mce 2005 is not built of the full version of pro anymore. All the media center editions up to 2004 were built off pro, but now its built on a sort of crippled version of pro slightly better than home, or so ive read.

Yeah, I think MCE 2005 is based more on XP Home than XP Pro as a lot of features that XP Pro has are not there.

It Dont Matter. Dell Now Has A Awful Packages For The I6000d, Since They Ran Out Of 7200 60gb Hd. They Are Forcing Us To Get Security/software Packages And 3yr Warranties.....iam Dissapointed, Bigtime.
post #16 of 20
Um, I'm confused. I just configured a system with a 2 year warranty and no software package. I don't know where the 1 year warranty went, though, or even the 90 day warranty. They're offered on the systems with Celerons, but not the systems with the Pentium Ms.

dell is a rip off lately.

i hate how in the "home section" you have to start with the most expensive config of the 6000, just in order to get dedicated graphics? thats scammin right there if ive ever seen it. they figure most users want dedicated gfx, so they only give em 1 config to start from??

bad business IMO

yEAH...

Iam so sorry but i might go another route. DELL is ripping us off with these prices and bogus coupons. I will wait for my taxes and get the Toshiba m45.
post #19 of 20
You know.. if you goto the catalog area and config those laptops you can actually get the lower ended warranty and all that... Thats how I got my 6000d for about $1280 w/ 750 off coupon.

Woah, that's weird. I guess they're just messing around with the 6000. You don't have to do any of that with the 700m. I'm sure there are ways around it, though.
