375/600?

Then the core clock speed is overclocked compared to the recommended NVIDIA settings: 300/600.

Edit: No actually I got confused with the 6200 settings. It's actually 375/700 that NVIDIA recommends. So the Uniwill is pretty close.

Laptop is packed up and ready to go back to iBuyPower. I dont feel that I should have to undervolt anything to keep a laptop from burning me. If I chose to undervolt it to keep the heat down thats one thing. Undervolting to avoid severe burns is another. Thanks for the suggestion though. Just not worth the effort at this point.

It does not support a built in TV tuner

After using the notebook another day, I would say that the heat would not bother me so much if it was on the backside of the laptop. It is made much more noticeable since it is on the parts that my right hand/arm are always in contact with. I dont know that a laptop cooler would help too much as most of the ones I see use fans in the middle or back area of the pad. The GPU and CPU are along the right side of this laptop where the fans are not going to really touch.

On a scale of 1-10 for heat I say this laptop gets a 7
For comparison my i9300 would have received a 4
My i9100 would have received a 6

The main difference is the heat is in such a compacted area. This notebook is super thin. The right side palm rest gets uncomfortably hot on my unit and the right side of the keyboard gets noticeably hot. Heat pours out of the exhaust area as you can imagine. Its a good thing besides the fact that my hand is in the exhaust area a bit.

Other than these complaints this notebook has handled very well. It plays games just fine. It scores rather well in 3dmark05. Both video cards worked flawlessly. The DVD burner was quiet. The LCD was flawless. Keyboard and sound were decent. The port layout was my other complaint. Very inconvenient layout.

Now for other people this laptop may work out just fine. Obviously these are just my opinions. I use my laptop as a mobile gaming/media platform. There is practically no office use done on my laptops. As an all around unit this thing would work just fine. The heat only gets real bad when gaming or putting a good amount of stress on the system.

Thanks for the review! sucks it's not capable of having a built in tv tuner... I should look for a "Portable/ Small" TV Tuner for this lappy before getting it.

Can you post some pics please (pointing out the lay-out) esp. at the back where the battery is located.. you said that it looks awkward, if you could please post some pics showing the angle at the back.

Thanks!

I would say it does not look awkward. Because the battery takes up the backside of this notebook all of the ports are on the right and left sides (mostly the right since the DVD drive is on the left). The power cord, USB ports, PCMCIA slot, external VGA port and heat exhaust port all come out of the right side of this notebook. Since I almost always have an external mouse hooked up it gets in the way a bit. And my hand and mousepad heat up pretty good from the hot air blowing out that way too.

Uniwill is not the only one who does this. I know MSI does this as well with their latest offerings. I prefer the way Dell has all their ports coming out of the back side of the laptop.

Zozo I look forward to your review.

harsan: I tried to see what options were given for the jack-sensing, but apparently the only way to get 5.1 is to use the S/PDIF out. Otherwise there actually is no jack-sensing available.

Since I shipped my laptop back today I put the final editting into my review. I also adjusted the score a little bit to be more fair. I think the cooling was not working properly on my machine.

Should you guys have any more questions I would be more than happy to attempt to answer them but you should probably ask Zozo as he is keeping his laptop and can answer better than I could at this point.

donkey, are you going to try get another one or did you give up on the Uniwill?

I am giving up on the Uniwill. Well to be honest I just dont want to play games with iBuyPower. Given their track record I would easily be without a computer for at least a month trying to get their depot service to fix it. In the end I decided to just go back to the i9300 from Dell.

After reading other reviews I would recommend this machine. My experience seems to be affected by a bad cooling system on my particular machine. Other than that it really did run pretty nicely.

if you ever go back to Uniwill, I believe RJtech now sells them too. haven't heard many bad stuff about them.

rjtech has the new Asus Z70Va refresh and both MSI barebones that I was interested in as well. I would definately order from rjtech. In retrospect I should have done that to begin with...
