whole refurbished (outlet) thing

I was reading FAQ on dell website about outlet systems and got a few qeustions. "We disassemble and rebuild returned systems to original factory specifications, then put the systems through a rigorous testing program to ensure Dell quality" so tell me is there anyway that I can get scratched or something lappy or it will look like straight from factory?

I can't answer for the general case, but the M70 that I bought from Dell outlet had all the case metal work as new and protected with plastic film so I think you shouldn't get any scratches etc (I would hope that they would replace any scratched parts)

oh, plastic film you're saying? hmmm. I wonder if it's like that with all outlet lappys (m70) is my main interest.

Yes - by plastic film I mean the stuff that you peel off (held in place just by air-pressure?) like you have on aluminium panels on hi-fi etc to protect it during shipment.

You always have the option to send it back (though that's a bit of hassle). The saving on Dell outlet is well worth it - mine was £900 less than the same configuration on the Dell small business site at the time. Though oddly, some of the prices on outlet are ridiculously high - it all seems pot luck.

Every laptop i've ordered from dell outlet has come looking like brand new (and i've ordered at least 4-6 of them that way).

Most of them look brand new, as they are actually brand new. A lot of refurbished systems are just systems that companies buy. Companies buy extra ones to accommodate for defects and malfunctions. When they realize they don't need all of them, they send the ones they didn't use back. Usually, these are unopened. Then, Dell tests them, and puts them on sale in the Outlet. The ones that aren't bought by companies are often bought by consumers who just can't afford them, or they change their minds about it. Sometimes, they cancel the order before it ships. Sometimes, they ship it back within 21 days because they changed their minds. What I'm trying to say is that most of the refurbished systems are brand new.
