Especially Im considering the different video cards, Ferrari 128 MB X700, Sony 256 MB X600 and the M70 has the Nvidia 256 MB FX...
I recently got a look at the new acer ferrari at a tiger direct retail outlet, I was a bit disappointed with the dull and dim screen, the main chassis is built tough thanks to the carbon fiber, however, the lcd lid isnt carbon fiber and flexes, you can see dimples on the lcd screen when you press against the lcd cover from the back with your fingers, for a laptop of this price that is highly dissappointing. Unless you are doing some professional 3d work, I would consider an xps m170, xps gen 2 or Inspiron 9300 as opposed to the M70 which is a professional workstation. The 9300 and xps series are built better than the sony and probably cheaper with a more powerful graphics card. The m70 is business class with legacy ports most students dont want or need and lacks the power of the graphics options for the xps and inspiron 9300. The x600 card is fairly low end, especially on a sony laptop that costs three thousand dollars.
Also as I recall, that Ferrari model had a "slot in" optical drive, like a car's optical drive, the disk slides into the drive automatically, no tray pops out, the problem with these drives is their reliability and they tend to scracth your cd's/dvd's which is one very good reason you dont see them all that often in computer applications, In my car I always use burned copies of my cd's to protect the master copies from the scratching that occurs.
On a footnote, toshibas new qosimio has the same problem, also its plasticy chassis is poor quality, models ive seen on display were warped where the warmer areas of the laptop were and the finish was extremely prone to finger smudges making it look crappy.
