Ferrari 4005 vs Sony Vaio A497 and Dell Precision M70? - Page 2

Just got a M70

Work just got me an M70 and its roughly 35-50% faster than my acer 8104 in the games I play. The M70 has 1GB more ram, 7200rpm disk, and a 20% faste processor, and I'm using the stock dell video drivers with no overclocking.

What I've noted:

- M70 consumes 30w on idle compared to 19w for the acer
- M70 is much cooler, 55C under load vs. 72C for my undervolted acer
- M70 screen (16x10) is much worse than the Acer 16x10 screen
- M70 fan noise is almost silent, the acer is loud under load
- Audigy ZS pcmcia card works perfectly in both
- M70 gets 2h30m battery life v 3h45m for my acer running general apps
- M70 is huge compared to the 8104, and about 2lbs heavier
- M70 is rock solid build, my acer seems cheaply made in comparison
- M70 runs linux with zero hassles, the 8104 does NOT due to acpi issues
- M70 cost twice as much as my Acer 8104, glad I didn't pay for it

All in all the Quadro 1400 rocks as a gaming card....makes me really, really, really want a 7800go lappy. (/e feverishly saves for an XPS M170)

Man, my F4005 screen sure isn't dull and dim, it's a gaming sight to behold. Did you check the vid settings on that particular machine you are referring to? IMWTK
