Hi

The Radeon creams the GeForce card

There are fresh revisions of both cards expected shortly after New Year, if what little news we have is to be believed.

Decisions are all about opportunity cost. The opportunity cost of choosing the NVIDIA over the ATI is less performance; The opportunity cost of choosing the ATI over the NVIDIA is stability... So it boils down to choosing the NVIDIA if you want driver/software/game stability or if you want performance which the ATI obviously wins in benchmark comparisons...

Truer words have not been spoken I currently have the ATI card and let me tell you Benchmarks aint that cool a game , as for real games like Neverwinter Night, Homeworld 2, and Call Of Duty I have had nothing but problems with. I have may an exceptionally bad card cause this issuses I am having aren't quite the same as other people are having though I am having the same washed out and hibernate problems that they are. let me put it this way the ATI could be a good card if they work out the bugs...Just my 2 cents

What’s Wrong with ATI Stability?

I have 2 boxes one runs a GF3 the other R9700 I have had no real problems with either of them. Both cards do what it says on the packet, as advertised.

ATI had driver issue a while back but they seem to have (so far) learnt and grown from that.

I honestly think both there drivers are on par on stability. The cards should be judged on speed and visual quality... ATI Owns this round, Things may change with the GO5700 we will wait and see but the best card available at the time will be in my new lappy. What that will be remains to be seen.

If you want a straight answer, go with the ATI card: Mobility Radeon 9600PRO.

"What’s Wrong with ATI Stability?"

What's wrong with ATI's stability!??!? Read any of the DOZENS of threads talking about people's experiences on this forum son! Also we're not talking about ATI's desktop cards we're talking about their MOBILITY series.

Trust me on this I HAVE ONE there are serious stablity and washout issues just look at the other thread here. They speak for themselves. I am not talking about ATI in general I am talking about the 9600 non pro by the way in this laptop. The Pro is not offered in the area51m

This man knows what he's talking about! as for right now I would say the Ati on the area51m2 sucks . I hope thet come out drivers to fix this problem soon. If and when this happens I will retract my previous statment but as for now it stands.

My experience granted is with desktop systems and I stated that in the post, My brother has a 64MB M10 and has had no problems with it as has my cousin with his Go5600. So I stand by what I said I was trying to give honest unbiased information.

and I am trying to warn people that as of right now the Ati 9600 in these laptops has major issues. That I for one hope will soon be solved so I like others can have a kick aXX card

Well, my experiances with ATI and NVIDIA seem on par with that. Ive swapped nvidia cards like mad on a single install of win XP, then I had a HORRIBLE experiance with a 9700 ATI.

Games kept rebooting my system, lockups, etc. I was told by "ATI Experts" that I had to totally wipe my system in order to get the card to work. Im sorry, but if thats the only fix for a driver install, than ATI still needs to learn how to make drivers. The forum-argument (you know, those rare things that never happen?) progressed away from ATI making horrible drivers and less-than-stable cards; but in to my lack of computer knowledge for "less than proficient back ups". A system wipe? Thats one hell of an ordeal for me, and I have insane back ups!.

Hmm, sorry...just a little venting.

I returned it, lived a little longer with my Geforce 2 than got an FX.

Damn, I was just about to order like a minute ago with the ATI card then I saw this thread.

Would you guys suggest going with the NVIDIA card? For me, I am not totally concerned with benchmarks and 3dscores. More importantly, I want my laptop to run clean and smooth right out of the box. Therefore, do you guys think I should go with the NVIDIA? It sounds to me like I might be able to avoid some problems if go with NVIDIA.

Any responses would be really appreciated!@!!!

What games do you play? I am almost exclusive to BF1942, and very Nvidia oriented. Also the nice things is that if you don't want to go ATI today, you can always switch out when the 256 version becomes available.

The washed out display isn't really a problem once I adjusted the settings it went away.

Wait till the Mobility Radeon 9700PRO? comes out next year. I think.
If I'm not mistaken, ATi has scrapped the 9700 and 9500 series all together for the 9800's. Sure would be nice to see a mobile 9800 w/ 256 megs of ram eh?

I have the ATI 9600 Pro in my Voodoo and it rocks, no stability issues in any games. (Its the 128MB version)
