Alienware Area-51m 766 First Impressions

Ahhh...I am beginning to regret my AW purchase. I received it in the mail on Nov 19, and have had problems with it since. But For some strange reason I still like the dammed machine.

THE BAD

1.)One rubber numbs that covers up the screen panel screws is missing (more ascetic than a real problem but for $4000 it would be expected to be there).
2.) My screen has a pixel failure right in the middle of the screen. Very annoying.
3.) My speakers are really quiet during DVD play. Called the AW tech help, went trough all the settings and reinstalled drivers. The speakers are still not working properly.
4.) The toggle switch that turns off the panel backlight when you close the screen is broken. Only after pushing it down a couple times with a paper clip will the backlight turn on.
5.) Start up is weird, I have to press the power button twice to get it to start up.
6.) The large silver button that allows you to open the screen frequently gets stuck, and is very difficult to engage.

All of the previously mentioned problems will be solved because I am sending it back on Monday to have it repaired!!!!!

The Good:

1.) Its fast!
2.) The cyborg green color looks great!
3.) People love the light up eyes.
4.) The screen is incredible (when it works)
5.) The remote works great for those extreme lazy days.
6.) It is quiet, and runs smooth.
7.) Battery life is acceptable for this caliber of a machine.

All in all I love this computer. As soon as these issues are resolved I am sure that it will be a most great machine!

As soon as I get it back I will post pictures, run benchmark tests, and make a more formal review.

Brian is your sound loud enough? I am having the same problem as lasko with the sound being way too quiet. Just wondering if there is a way to get it louder.

Speakers!

I think i figured this thing out there are like 3 diffrent volume settings on this thing including the master volume wich is set using the fn key and 2 of the top row numbers this was only set halfway down on mine. I set it all the way up and wow the speakers are much louder. this volume runs completely indepentently of the one on the side and the one in the system tray. I can hear this thing a few rooms over now my noisey desktop machine used to drown it out.

Sorry you guys have had some problems, but hey, if you haven't spent a whole weekend with Alienware tech support, you haven't gotten the full Alienware experience. After my lost weekend with tech support, I love my laptop again. Seriously, I don't know why AW gets a bum rap with their tech support. They have been helpful, knowledgeable and patient, and my hold times haven't been to bad. So guys, hold on, things will get worked out and your laptops will perform the way they're suppossed too. Things where shakey at first but I too have finally gotten my laptop near to perfect. The last thing i need to do is get a wireles router and play with the internal network card hopefuly it will work fine.
