Unable to reinstall windows

I formated my hard drive and wanted to re-install xp on my Area51m since I have been having some problems since it arrived but for some reason am unable to do so. During installation I keep getting a "Setup cannnot copy the file: autoconv.exe" message and when I skip it I get the same message for numerous other files. Has anybody here had the same problems? Any solutions? Any input would be appreciated.

You have a bad XP CD, or it's dirty thats the only reason short of a bad CD-ROM drive that a file will not copy from the CD to the prefetch cab.

I feel your pain. As a Best Buy In-store Technician I had to perform multiple Alienware restores back in the day. Their restore/recovery CD's are easily the worst in the industry for some reason which I have yet to comprehend. I got those type of errors EVERY time I attempted a complete restore/recovery. I finally got pissed and started using a Windows Pro/Home OEM installation CD which proved dependable every time....

Thats an excellent suggestion BTW. If you need the CD I can set up an FTP for you as long as you have the XP Pro key.

So its possible to use somebody elses CD with your own CD code? If that is the case its no problem.. I can easily borrow the XP Pro CD from someone else (I only have the home version). For some reason I thought that XP keys only work with their respective CDs.
And thanks for the offer Time-Pilot but I will just get the CD from a friend tomorrow.

Think of windows as Quake3...you just need a CD key for the freedom of a Rocket Launcher and Quad damage...pretty simple.

Yeah I guess it makes sense. Don't know why I thought that. Anyway this makes things a lot easier for me which is always good.
