Did you buy it to play games and be fast or for portability?

I have to say I love it. I researched pretty much every notebook through various sources before deciding on the Sentia. I had kind of liked one of the Sony models but it had its draw backs. So after a month or so of looking I ordered my Sentia. Sure I had a couple of little problems with it after I got it. I sent it in and they were resolved rather quicky. I went into this situation wanting a high power ultra-lite notebook. I got what I was looking for. People who play graphic intense games should know better than to expect the Sentia to meet high expectations. For example, you wouldn't buy a standard CD player and expect it to play DVD's. If you wanted a DVD player, you would have bought one. Same with Sentia. Sentia just isn't designed for high end gaming. If it was a machine capable of amazing game playing the wait time for one to be built and delivered would be years since everyone would want one. Instead I would say that it is a perfect machine for students to use at college or people like me who just use it for day to day stuff like email and the office suite products. For those applications it is better than good. But this is just my opinion.

I could save money

Before i chosing the sentia, i was looking for something small and light, i didnt want an ibook, so my best pics where the dell700m, sony vaio and voodoo but they were too expensive same as panasonic toughbook.

i like my machine, everybody likes it(cause of the looks i guess) i tought it was unique,Till yesterday, i went to check out stuff(microcenter store) mainly looking for a sleeve that'll fit the sentia and i discovered that there was a winbook computer that looks just as the sentia, xcept no glowing eyes, but besides that, it was the same.
The price was like 1200, obviously not with my specs, but anyway it sux to think you re getting a unique machine while somebody else uses the same case and sell em for cheaper, and you dont have the eyes so maybe you'll do better with battery compsumption.
I spent a lot of money on this computer, if i had seen that winbook before i would prob go with that one, cuz you can configure with the same specs and prob save yourself some money and you wont be waiting months for a rebate.

So far i didnt have any big issues with the computer,
just that its expensive, it does get a litle warm, and the fact the case is made in china doesnt make me feel to good, i mean its plastic, for that price they should get u a magnesium one.

Also ive seen there is an upgrade for the powercinema feature on the alienware site. and the partition size required its smaller to set the new one up.

well after all, the computer its nice, light, portable so thats why i bought it.
Not much of a gamer, so it suits all my needs.

i bought a sentia because it was reasonably priced(not really but im trying to be optimistic), it was thin and light. and very portable. and also to play a few games that dont require much like cs 1.6 or diablo 2. i didnt expect much gaming out of the sentia that wasnt my soul reason for buying it. well what i didnt pay for(which i though i was according to alienwares site) was the terrible customer service and the almost glass like fragility of the sentia. people who rate the sentia high must not have very high standard

BHertz, explain the glass like fragility of your Sentia for me. Where you the one who dropped theirs a month or 2 ago?
when i open it the screen distorts. is that not fragile??? if i barely press on the back where the eyes are it distorts. i droppe dit and the screen broke. the disk drive broke, and for some reason aw felt i needed a new mobo. and it must have been for good reason. they payed for it.

the sentia is fragile.

If anyone is disappointed by the Sentia's graphics don't blame Alienware, blame yourself.

I am disappointed with my Sentia/Alienware for the following reasons:

1. Had to send it back to depot within the first month I had it for a bad hard drive. WTF is my on-site warranty supposed to cover?

2. It will need to go back to depot as the touch-pad doesn't work. When using it the pointer jumps all over the screen likes its on crack. Happens in safe-mode, in power cinema, and after a total reinstall so its a hardware issue.

3. The Alien Respawn CD mine came with doesnt work. They were supposed to credit me the 40 bucks or whatever but never did.

4. While I havent done formal testing, I know my Sentia does not get near 4 hours of battery life. Regardless of wireless on or off, or if it just sits doing nothing.

5. I had to fight with the finance department for 4 months to get the 9 months same as cash deal I signed up for.

6. The Alienware OS reinstallation disk goes right on through and does a reformat and reinstall without any warning. If you boot off that CD be ready to have everything wiped, not like the normal XP install CD run recovery console, partition drives, format, intall, etc.

7. The bottom case was not assembled properly when I got it new. It was missaligned so I had to do it myself.

8. At the time I bought mine (almost a year ago) they listed the hight as 1 inch. Well it was definetly not 1 inch when I got it. Now their website says 1.75 inches.

9. The fan seems to come on more often then it should, even when there is little CPU or disk I/O. I have never had a laptop with a fan this active and I have owned many, and used over a hundred in my line of work as a network engineer.

Its a shame because on paper the Sentia should be a damn good laptop.
