The Free Dell Printer - How is it?

Well last week they were giving away the free Dell printer with a notebook purchase.. which I got. I havent got a USB printer cable yet so I have not tried it out. But how is the little sucker? It's free so I am not expecting it to do anything amazing.. but for a free printer, is it pretty decent? I think the model is 720

It's pretty decent. Not the best of quality, but not too bad. But be forewarned, the cartritges are where Dell will get you. ~$70 for both, IIRC.

Isnt it possible to get cheaper, off brand cartridges??
I am not sure you can get cheaper off brand cartridges. I think I read somewhere that it is the same cartridge from another brand, just with the Dell logo. The printer isn't great, but it is free, so you can't complain too much. I think my free printer came w/the usb cable and ink cartridges. Maybe I got lucky.

it kind of looks like an HP printer, I'm sure someone can fill us in tho..

I gave it to my sister.. lol. I plan to keep my good ol' HP Printer which is the only brand I plan to ever use. My parent's Dell Printer is nice (it's an All-in-One), but it runs thru ink really fast.

Eh...it's free. The cartridges they give you are "demo" cartridges and don't last very long. I'm pretty sure Lexmark makes the printers, but their cartridges won't work in the printer. I gave mine away.

just doing a simple google search, I found quite a few sites selling both the black, and color 720 cartridges for 18-25 dollars. I'm debating keeping mine or my old Canon 4300...

The printers are made by Lexmark.

Might be able to do your own refills if you can find the right refill kit. My free printer is still sitting in its box in the hallway. No plans to use it anytime soon.

they can fit lexmark printers with a small mod takes less than 10 seconds.

My hp printers have also always gone through a ton of ink.

I bought a relatively inexpensive HP printer and it goes through ink slowly. Even better, the catridges are cheap!! The only other brand of printer I would buy is Epson.

Lexmark and their Dell rebranded printers are bad and obviously the ink is expensive.. never buy those.

canon cartridges are cheap as well.......

the cool thing about it is that it is very easy to refill the cartriges on your own. of course, ive never had to cause it isnt linux compatible and ive never used it.

The Dell printers are all Lexmark printers so when you run out of ink, use a lexmark refill so you dont have to buy them from dell. Its an average printer, nothing spectacular but adequate for general use.

When I ordered my i6000 laptop last week, I chosed the free DVD burner upgrade instead of the free 720 printer. I already have a 3 in one printer.

Good choice. I would have chosen a free DVD burner over the printer if I had had that option when ordering.
