when i put a cd in the computer locks up. How nice is that?

oh yeah, i just reformatted and it started happening after i installed all the Nero utilities. i can, however, cold reboot and then read the files on the cd. But how handy is that when i have ten cd's worth of data i need to put on my hdd after reformating?????????????

nevermind, "it fixed itself"--Brazil, 1984

no, i don't know, now it works, but for a while i had to reboot whenever putting a cd in the drive. My possible fix: turned off autoplay, then reinstalled drivers. don't know if that had anything to do with it but this will take care of it:
<----That sign has been in more of my posts recently, lol

....................many hours later, this is not happening. my drive is fuct. period. why would it stop working again? i never had this problem before tonite. i installed EVERYTHING IN THE RIGHT ORDER. W. T. F. it doesn't work, and i have recieved countless error reports (not particularly about my cd drive) since reformatting. anyone have a clue? i am running out of patient brain cells here. ANYONE? god dammit i can't stand XP=does not work.

i have to post here because...

...no one seems to be ginving any technical support regarding my problem. If someone can help me solve the issue, here is the place to find that someone.

MY CD-RW DOES NOT WORK. Can anyone explain to me why? here is a link to my post in 88xx tech support. Basically i can put in an installation CD and it autoloads. I hit Install, and when it gets half way through, it asks for the 2nd disk. When i put the 2nd disk in the f'ing computer locks up and i have to cold reboot. I just installed the mouse driver because they are f'ing things up too. ANYONE?

It sucks, because i have friends coming today, to see my laptop. If i can't get anything installed i can only show them the desktop. That is BFS. I know its just a driver issue, but windows has not explained why this is happening. There are no conflicts in Device Mgr. Nothing appears to be wrong, except for the freezing. Why does this happen? i just reformatted and installed windows update, albiet after installing all the drivers in the recommended order from the sager manual. Thanks.

First - this is a forum - not a support line. If you arent getting support its possible

a) People dont know the answer
b) People dont have time to respond to it

Now onto your problem.

I assume you are running Windows XP? Do you have all the SP etcs installed - do you have all the updates installed. Have you tried deleting the HW then letting it refind and reinstall the driver. Have you tried getting the driver from the manufacturer themself. Are you experiencing other lockups - perhaps while watching a DVD. Lastly what exactly are you trying to install? Is it a game? are they the original discs or copies?

Answer these then I will have a better idea how to help.

Well first off you did say it fixed itself so maybe thats why people didnt respond as it was pointless.

Regarding your problem try and uninstall Nero including cleaning the registry. Then reinstall it.
A bad install of Nero can bugger up the CD/DVD drive configuration. I have seen this before.
What version of Nero are you using? Maybe get the latest and try that.

Ever think it might be a corrupt disc? I know for a fact that, on my Sager 5670, a disc will just not load right. I put it in my desktop and runs fine. I have found this to be a problem with alot of PC's I deal with. Some just get wiggy with some media.

This problem, just doesn't make sense. I hope someone knows what's going on here.

The CD problem has NOT fixed it self. Sorry, but it sometimes works and other times doesn't. Like today when i am at a computer help center trying to get my wireless LAN to work, and when the guy put the "wireless driver" CD in the drive, we have to reboot. It sucks. The screen freezes. you cannot move the mouse. Numlock sanity check turns up negative results. Hasn't anyone had this problem?

The biggest pain is that windows doesn't see that there is a problem. There are no driver or IRQ conflicts, etc. NOTHING. peace

I thought that, but it occurs with more than one disk. I am using XP. It is completely random, when the computer freezes. It could happen right when putting the disk in (during Autoload) when i am not doing anything (not even moving the mouse) OR when i am loading a CD and doing ten other things. Memory seems to have nothing to do with it.

Here is another example: When i put COD disk 1 in my computer, it Autoloads and i follow the steps to install it. Then halfway through it asks for Disk 2 and i load it and right after, the computer freezes. No reason at all. POS Sager

Is it only with ONE 2-disc set that you are seeing this problem? What program is it on the 2-disc set you are trying to install and it's locking up?

Could be that disc is corrupt, or Nero screwed something up (as previously posted). If you get to the point of another re-format / re-install, add Nero LAST, after the problematic 2-cd install one.

PS: I merged these threads

Thanks Myrkat for merging the threads. I felt bad about having two threads about the same thing.

As far as your questions are concerned: It happens randomly. sometimes with any disk i put in the drive. Other times, when an installation asks for disk 2. The installation thing happened with both Encarta 2004 and Call of Duty. i have nothing more to say, really, i think i summed it all up to the best of my abilty. later

I'm getting the same problems. Put a disk in and, bam, machine locks up!

I've disable autoplay and I'm gonna monitor it. I believe there are a couple of other people having the same problem on another thread somewhere.

Someone mentioned it might be a conflict between Nero and WinDVD or an autoplay problem.

I'll let you know if this works out!

i tried all those things, no longer use any of them and still have the problem, are there new drivers or something for cd-rw/dvd player?

I got rid of it but it required reinstalling/reformatting. Now i have the bear essentials installed on my machine and so far nothing is going haywire anymore. Hence, the CD-rw/dvd combo drive is working. I couldn't understand why nero would do that to a drive. I think it might have been the "InCD" software itself, because maybe our drives don't support that feature. Check on your D: properties and see if there is a tab called InCD. Uninstall it if you have it and if you feel don't need it.

I believe the problem may be the DVD/CD-RW combo drive. I have the Toshiba SD-R2412 installed on my system which isn't on the list of supported drives for Nero 6 (the DVD-RW Toshiba SD-R6112 is listed)

I've sent an email to Nero. Hopefully it'll be supported in a future update. Nero are usually quite good with updates to nclude support for more recorders.

It's be great if this was the resolution as I much prefer Nero to Roxio.

I have the Toshiba DVD-RW SD-R6112 and the same problem happens on it too.

I updated Nero two days ago. Still get same problem.
Hmmm.
