Sale until 9/14! Inspiron 6000 or Latitude D810???

Dell's got $400 off Inspiron 6000s above $1399 and Latitude D810s above $1699 for the next 6 days! Suddenly the HP nc8230 doesn't look NEARLY as appealing...I've got a week to think and decide. The Latitude has the advantage of dual-channel RAM, a track-point, and 3 year warranty. The Inspiron has those cool looking media controls on the front, and is cheaper when configured similarly (ABG, SXGA+, Pentium M 740, 512 MB, 60 GB HDD, 9 cell battery, base video).

Opinions, opinions? I get the impression the Latitudes are constructed better, and they have the wonderful Trackpoint...I'd have to buy a mouse or trackball for the Inspiron, because I despise touchpads. I've heard the Inspirons have some keyboard flex issues, light leakage from the screens, whatever.

Come on, help me decide! I only have 6 days, starting from now! Good thing I can handle either one on my credit card...

I just got my 6000d and am really impressed with the build compared to my old 600m and 9100, its solid, and the screen is beautiful.

I would definitely get the D810 (IMO)... better build (contruction wise with firm casing), better graphics processor (X600), better warranty (Business Class)

Personally, I'd take the Latitude.

Oh no...2 and 2! A TIE!! ACK!!

I need to find out if those DVD buttons on the front of the Inspiron are dependent on Dell's media software. See, first thing I'd be doing is re-partitioning and installing Fedora Core on whichever one I get.

Course, I'm also thinking how much advantage dual-channel RAM would actually be, since the CPU and memory are both on 533 MHz busses...

to my knowledge dell latitude coupons don't come around very often, and when they do they aren't for very much. I'd go with the latitude.

Ok, someone who has one of the Latitude D810 systems (or a Precision M70 I guess): what is with those grills at the upper corners of the keyboard? Are they vents or 2 extra speaker outlets? because it's my understanding that the 2 speakers in the system are at the front....

Those are vents, its the same as teh older version of the Inspiron Models. I would go with the D810 just because it has more stuff then the 6000d and since you can get it on sale... sure.. why not.

Sounds like I'm getting the Latitude. Won't really miss the SD slot on the Inspiron (Not sure there's Linux drivers for it anyway)...besides, I have a USB-Key sized SD card reader. and an Inspiron 6000 owner telling me to get the Latitude D810 is pretty convincing.

Wonder what I might be able to do with the smart card slot though....probably nothing, of course.

I own a 8600 right now and my 6000 is on its way. From what I've used on the 8600 (D800) its basically a nice system, pretty sturdy and powerful. As long as you don't relaly care about its looks just its components, you should just pick whatever's more power/better.

But yeah, good luck though.

If you decide on the I6000, I would get the dedicated video card (X300) and the WSXGA screen. It's really beautiful...gorgeous!

Get the Latitude. Thats what I would get, but I finally decided on the Inspiron 9300. The Latitude will give you better graphics(x600) and dual channel 533mhz RAM. D810 is also basically a grey 8600(of course with improvements).
