Presario R3050US screen flickering

Just a couple days ago my laptop starts to flicker a little bit. I just hit the lid button a couple times and it stopped. Now, it flickers so much I can't even stare at the screen. I went to compaq.com and got the latest BIOS and graphics card updates, and still the same. Any idea on how I can get this thing fixed?

Is it flickering or do you think it may be more of like a line thats going up and down?

Sorry for the timely reply.

Its the entire screen that flickers. Almost like a strobe light. But just the other day it stopped, but then it started back up again. So I'm thinking it's some type of cable.

Okay, i was hoping that it was the refresh rate but it doesnt sound like it... When you move around the screen does it happen? If so then yes its likely a cable. If it doesnt maybe its something else...

Also i checked on www.r3000forums.com and didnt find anyone with that problem so its likely not widespread...

You can talk to HP about them repairing it if you are still under warranty or you can try to do it yourself... Which isnt an easy task if you dont do it all the time...

Here is the service manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00212209.pdf

Thanks for the forum & manual info. As for the screen, it usually acts up when I first start it up and continues for some time. It usually doesn't start to flicker if I move around the screen. Basically it happens when it starts up and usually doesn't stop until I shut down the laptop. Since the laptop is out of warranty, I'm probably going to open it up over the weekend and take a look at the connectors for the lcd screen to see if anything is loose. I'll give you an update on Monday.

Okay... From there there may be some things we can do...

Just saw something weird. Turned it on, the screen was black, but I could see just a little of the background. Just let it sit there for a couple minutes and the screen flickered back to clear. I'm not getting a warm and fuzzy feeling here.

Have you taken it apart yet?

Also Its important to note, if you take it apart you automatically void any warranty left... Just like it says in your user manual...

Techkng778,
I haven't taken it apart yet (I'll work on it over the weekend) and the laptop is already out of warranty(bought it about 2 years ago).

Okay, Sorry about being late. I didn't get a chance last week to crack into it cuz of my 1yr old's b-day. I took the whole thing apart just to find out all i had to do is take 3 screws off and pop off the panel that sits over top of the power button. Any way after playing around with the screen wires the problem is found in the lid button. I managed to get it to flicker, then I pulled up on the small plastic piece on the motherboard and it stopped flickering. So it looks like I need to find out how to order it or get some place around here in central PA that can fix or, or just live with it.

I don't see a serial number in the .pdf, but the actual name is: display lid switch

Look here: http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main

But i dont think you will be able to get it alone... You may need to scrap one from another system...

THere is one other possibility...the back light or the power cables and or the circuit card inside the LCD panel could be going bad. The first indicator was when yu turned on the laptop and could just make out the screen. That indicates the backlight and or the related circuitry.

Right but you will figure that out when you open it up...

Sounds like the units switching back and forth rom batter to Adapter..(Bad solder jints on DC jacks) http://howtofixcomputers.com/bb/ftopic73146.html (Flickers).. Black screen is inverter or backlight fault. If you need help dot hesitate to ask.. Good luck!
