Thread Starter
I HAVE BEEN READING TOO MUCH ABOUT THE WASHED OUT SCREEN PROBLEM. PLEASE VOTE ON THE REASON TO WHY IT IS HAPPENING. IF I DIDNT PROVIDE THE PROPER CHOICE POST A MESSAGE. FEEL FREE TO POST YOUR IDEAS. ANY FEEDBACK IS WELCOME ESPECIALLY THAT I WOULD LOVE TO BUY MY SYSTEM NOW.

WHAT CARD CAUSES THE WASHED-OUT DISPLAY?

1. ATI RADEON 9600 128MB
2. NVIDIA go5600 128MB
3. OTHER (PLEASE POST THE REASON)

THANK YOU ALL

radek

P.S. PLEASE POST ANY INFO ON WHICH CARD IS BETTER IN PERFORMANCE AND/OR STABILITY? IS THERE A HUGE DIFFERENCE?

I'm asking the same question. I read somewhere on this forum that if you go with the NVIDIA, you sacrafice speed and power for stability (eg. No washed out screen). However, I just read that the washed out display is seen with both cards, and that to fix the problem, you just need to download the drivers for the LCD from the alienware website.

I've down loaded the 7.91 drivers dated 10/17/03, I believe. The screen looks fine. I've played with the settings for each color and have gotten it to my liking. The screen now looks better than 95% of laptops out there. And finally, standby and hibernation work! So in my opinion, stick with the ATI 9600. Anyway, when the Nvidia 5700 is released, this might all be a mute point wether the 5600 or 9600 is better.
