ABS is offering the Uniwill notebook (still only with a WXGA screen) we are talking about but those other 2 links are for a completely different notebook.

Great review and some usefull replies in this thread! And I just have 1 question. What is the difference between

Battalion 101 ML-Turbo
---- and ----
Battalion 101 ML-Turbo [2]

on iBuyPower.com ?

I don't see the difference in specs but I'm guessing maybe one has 2 video cards and other doesn't? I don't know, hope somebody has an answer .

Thanks.

I purchased this laptop about 2 weeks ago from CyberPower for $1500. (2.0 processor, 1 Gig Ram, 80G Drive, Intel B/G wireless, XP Pro)

I did a search for this laptop on Price-watch and found that Cyber-power had a pretty bad reputation. But after reading the feedback, I decided I could fix any problems encountered with the laptop. I was able to save around $200.

The fit and finish on the laptop is very nice. The screen had ZERO dead pixels and looks really good playing Halflife2 or WoW. WoW runs 30-60 FPS depending on how crowded the area is. This is with all the bells and whistles turned on. I also tried it with the onboard video and it is playable.

I had some concerns as Donk3y had. The front right part of the laptop gets hot during 3D game-play. I loaded up Mobile Meter and ran it during a session. The CPU never rose above 71ºC(159.8F). Although it was fairly warm during game-play it is tolerable.

I like the USB ports being where you can get to them. In this configuration you will have to either put up with the Optics drive or the USB on the right side. The heat exhaust does come off the right side. The heat from there wasn’t to annoying. There is a high pitch sound that comes from the fan that is annoying to me. It of course only occurs when tasking the computer i.e. 3D games. This occurs with in both video modes.

Over all I’m pretty happy with the laptop. I’ll be using it more as I travel. If any issues come up Ill be sure and post.

Thread Starter
Just a quick note to say that I've been using it for a month and a half now and I really like it.

Ymmajin: High pitched noise from the fan? My previous notebook had one, my Uniwill doesn't come anywhere close in terms of annoyance.

I mostly hear it when playing 3d games. When the temperature of the system goes up. Other than that I am enjoying the laptop tremendously. I used it a lot on a trip to San Diego...watch some DvDs, Used it with my GPS for GeoCaching, played WoW at the hotel. I have been using it a lot.

I recently discovered the Touch pad setup. I like that a lot.

Touch pad setup? Can you please elaborate?

Also, I just noticed this on the unwill website for the 259EN3:
Quote:
Memory: Support (2) DDR2 400/533 SO DIMM up to 1GB total
Do they mean 1 GB per slot or 1 GB for both slots? If it's the latter, then you can't raise the memory more than 1 GB, and that is unacceptable for any new notebook being sold today. Anybody here have a unwill with more than 1 GB RAM?

One more thing... the specs on the uniwill site says the notebook's weight is 6.43 lbs, but a LOT of resellers say the weight is 7.2 lbs... which one is correct?

Go to Control Panel

Click on Mouse Properties

Far right tab is Device Settings click it.

Then click Settings in the middle right of the screen, make sure your touchpad is highlighted.

The Synaptics Properties will come up. Here you can change the tapping features, pointers, Scrolling, Buttons .etc. I finally got the thing where I like it so I use it more then the USB mouse I bought.

Ahh, I see. BTW, how is your laptop holding up after 2+ months? Is that high pitched noise still a problem? Any other problems cropped up?

I have been considering this notebook (after doing a whole lot of research) for many reasons. I like the power saving feature because the true reason I need a notebook most is to be able to work on the go. I can use the GMA for most of my work applications if not all and still get good battery life. The 6600 is nice though because I might decide that a game or two passes the time nicely while in a hotel room or on a plane.

The question I have is in regards to the battery. I have seen "6-cell" mentioned on one re-seller's site yet ZoZo mentions a 9-cell batttery. I need the full 3-4 hours of power in GMA mode so I would prefer the 9-cell. The product manual from the link someone so kindly provided to uniwill's download page is marked as one for the 255ENX instead of 259ENX. I assume that the chassis is the same and that's why perhaps they used this? At any rate it mentions either a 6 or 9 cell battery.

Can anyone confirm which battery they have and what site they purchased from so I know what I'll be getting? I found AVADirect.com has nice systems they will build for you and burn in, warranty, etc. Anyone know of their rep?
