Uniwill 259EN3 Review - Zozo - Page 3

Hey GUYS!

Justo got this laptop last week! from rawpowerpc.com
So far so good!
I shall post a review after my FINAL EXAMS!!! and AFTER PLAYING NBA LIVE 2006.

Now for a quick peak...

I am not really impress with it's design, it doesnt really look like a powerful laptop. But who cares? what matter is inside (idiot inside, lol)

First negative I noticed... heat coming from the touch pad, which is actually cool coz it's kinda cold up here... it's not really annoying or get's very hot as teh fan turns on only if it needs to... I would say 4 out 5 on that.

Battery sucks big time... it can only stand between 1 to 1 1/2 hr. So asks your vendor if they provide 12 cell.. (I am already using the Intel Graphics card and still only up to that time)

tredragon, I would advice you to get from rawpowerpc.com as well... I cant really describe how EXCELLENT the experience I had with them... I am a VERY VERY SATISFIED buyer from rawpowerpc...

That's it for now...
I'll give more details next time.

Let me know if you have any questions about this system...

EDIT: Forgot to mention Im a perfectionist, so, Im sure everyone who has this lappy is very satisfied like me... COZ IT's REALLY AWESOME!

Okay, we really need to do a little battery-life survey of all 259EN3 owners (specifying which battery you have, 6, 9, 12-cell). Also which graphics you are using. Should I start a new thread? I think I will.

Its holding up really well. Not having any problems with it whatsoever. The Static sound is still occuring, but like I said it occurs when the system is being tasked i.e. 3D games. I have been using it much more than I thought at Internet cafes and such during lunch time. For the money it does exactly what I want it to do.

I'm glad to hear that most people are still happy with their machines after some time passes by. This validates my decision (which isn't final just yet ;-) ) to buy this unit when the time comes.

I did start a poll to try and get some battery life answers. I am also trying to track down which battery people have so please don't forget to post that and where you got the notebook from.

Primarily I want this unit because I will not need the GPU most of the time, but I am just one of those guys who wants to have it if I do. There was a slogan for a car company I believe that went something like, "not that you would, but you could." That describes me when researching purchases. Even though I should probably settle with the economical choice, I want to be able to have a decent unit down the road and be able to do things if I feel so inclined.

I have a question that I just realized I haven't seen answered anywhere:

Can you use the VGA out port (to attach an external monitor) with the GMA integrated video, just with the Go6600, or both? Anyone know.
Now I'm torn completely between the Sager NP5320 and this unit. Both have great internals, with the nod on battery life going to the Uniwill, we think.

The thing I like most about the 5320 is that it has the handy front CD controls that allow for playing without booting, the DVI out, and the swappable bay for extra battery which, you might not need if the battery life is so great on the Uniwill in GMA mode... then again if using GPU, the nod goes to the 5320.

Also, PC Torque offers on-site and accidental damage protection. Haven't found those offered for the Uniwill. The price configured with warranty is about the same (slightly higher) for the 5320. I have a lot to consider. I don't game really, yet, but I want to be able to. Plus won't DVD experiences be better with a GPU, not to mention if I have a few movies on the HDD in MPG or similar format.

Someone help me break this down, I can't decide.

You can use the VGA out port with Either graphics card. My laptop came with the software for both drivers supporting Dual outputs.

Ok did a battery test with the Go6600 graphics. I played a Terminator 3 DVD and the battery lasted 1:15. Ill do a test with the Intel 900 graphics tomorrow and post.

Did a test running the T3 DvD with the Intel 900 Video. The battery lasted 1:50. A bit better. Hope this helps.

The battery I have in my laptop is made by Gallopwire 10.8Vcd 440mAh (which tells me its a 6 cell battery).

Yikes! That's not good at all. I can't even watch a movie on a 2+ hour flight. If I can't get a 9-cell for this (the optical drive isn't swappable for addn'l batt is it?) I'm going with another unit.

1:50 with the integrated graphics card? Wow, that's a bummer. Have you tried to undervolt your cpu? That might help the battery life a bit. There is a pretty extensive thread about it in the Guides forum:
Simple Undervolting Tutorial - Pentium M Dothan

Edit:- Just noticed this:

I found this strange because when you try to configure the notebook on cyberpower's website (that's where you bought the notebook from, right?), it says
Quote:
Li-Ion 8-Cell PACK, 14.4V x4400 mAh
What's even weirder still, is if you scroll down to the specifications, for battery it says:
Quote:
Li-ion Smart Battery
• 6 Cells, 11.4V/4400mA (3S2P), 3.7V/ 2200mAH/ Cell, Panasonic/Samsung
• 9 Cells, 11.1V/6600mA (3S3P), 3.7V/2200m AH /Cell, Panasonic/Samsung

Yeah I'm cornfused myself. I think its an 8 Cell. But I cannot find any info on it.
yes and in places I've seen them listed as 9-cell 10.8v 6600mAh

We need that ZoZo guy to post his battery specs as he said he had a 9-cell
post #52 of 69
I would say the 4400mAh is a 6-cell 10.8v battery and the 6600mAh battery is the 9-cell 10.8v battery. Which led me to saying I had a 6-cell battery since mine says 4400mAh.

I am thinking of purchasing a Universal External Battery and calling it good.

I'm not surprised. I've seen these re-sellers saying 1GB RAM max, the other says 2GB... I think sometimes that they are so anxious to sell a product that they don't bother taking the time to report it's specs accurately.

battery

ok so as we know it this laptop's battery life TOTALLY suck. The default battery is a 4400mha, you guys mentioned something about a 9cell or 8 cell that's 6000mha+ where can i find one of that? I really need a second battery and i dont want to get the original 4400 mha batt if there is a higher one out there. Please respond! THANKS!!!

Hey Ymmajin,

Do you know many mha is that universal battery on the link you gave us? I want to know so i can get an approximate guess on how long it will last for this uniwill laptop. THANKS!

I have given up on this laptop. Hopefully they will refine it and make the batt last at least 3 hours on GMA video mode. Otherwise you're saving like very battery life little yet paying a lot for this "great" feature.

In case anyone was wondering, I'm going Sager 3880v
post #57 of 69
Well, the battery issue aside, the video card performance of this laptop beats all other geforce 6600 and x700s out there so I will put up with this flaw..... hopefully there is an extended battery available, does anyone know?????????
For all the confused buyers... I myself was confused once, nothing against the other laptop, but this laptop has been really great...

Have been playing NBA Live 06 the whole day (of course not using a battery) and performance has been great. Heat issues is slight as I can feel it in my palm while playing... but I guess that's normal in EVERY DTR notebooks... I just bought an external keyboard and a mouse for gaming.

Battery issues, you might have a case on this, I would it does sucks, but most of the system only sold have 6 cell.. if ur going to buy this lappy, asks if you can get 12 cell instead of the default battery it has.. besides, you can get an extra battery for longer life..

havent had the time yet to make a full review, but asks me any questions

Still, this laptop's performance is great, the only thing I am not impressed with is it's design... not really impressed, but it's OK

Sangorel, you have been active on this system (thread)... do u have it yet? or still deciding??
