Hey guys I'm new to these forums, I have been looking into getting a new laptop for awhile now and Dell's have been around for a long time running. Although I am not sure what I should get at this time. I know I want a kick arse system that can really dish out the graphics and what not.

I have looked into getting the XPS2, but I don't know too much about it.

I have also looked into getting the Acer Ferrari and one of the Alienware systems. Price at this point is no object and I am willing to dish out the money for a really good laptop.

I haven't done too much research on any of these brands, but right now I am leaning more towards the Dell's. Any and all help would much be appreciated.

I figured I would have gotten a response from one of you by now. Apparently this is not that important to any of you. All I needed were some suggestions as far as dell's go. This may mean I might have to go with Alienware.

what are you looking for help with, you don't really say? It sounds like you want opinions on the XPS2, well do some reading in the XPS forum and decide for yourself.

okay well this want I then. I am wanting to buy multiple systems. If I can get wat I want through dell then I will go through them. WHat I want are some user reviews...yes I have been searching through your wonderful threads in search of reviews and what not.

What I really need is some guidance when it comes to dell, and their favorable systems. Now since I usually don't buy mainstream anything, including computers and this would be a first for me. I would need all the help possible to buy a system, or systems from dell. Now I have been going through their site and been pricing and re-pricing. But I've been doing the same on the Alienware site as well. But I do have to sya that the Alienware's are ridiculously priced. But they offer things like SLI and what not. The cases looks pretty slick as well.

Now I do have a friend that has an XPS he likes it and plays games on it and stuff. and I was intrigued about it and whatever...

OKay so my responses to question has been somewhat vague, but thats as far as I can go. I want to get mulitiple systems, I am just trying to take the best route possible. I want the speed and power and I don't care about the cost. I have one thing I want though. I want a laptop as well. the other two are going to be desktops.

SLi is only offered on a desktop, not a notebook.

Welcome to the boards, Malikide.

You'll have to give us a little more time to respond next time. I'm not sure where you are, but your posts were between 5:13 AM and 7:36 AM on the Pacific coast. I don't know what portion of us live in this time zone, but you got to give us a chance to wake up.

I can't offer much opinion on the machines. When I was looking at laptops, I did take a look at Dell and Acer. What eventually won me out was that the Dell offered a Pentium-M chip, while the Acer only offered an Athlon and battery life was very important to me. I avoided Alienware just because they seemed too expensive for what you get. I think most people buy Alienware for the "prestige" of owning an Alienware.

I think that Dell offers great performance for the dollar. I've had no problems with my laptop since I got it 16 months ago. I purchased a mid-high end machine, but it still plays all the newest games.

If you're looking for a desktop replacement or if you don't mind lugging around a 17" laptop, then the XPS is their premium system. I don't own one, so I don't think it's appropriate to give an opinion, but I can tell you that I've been very happy with having a Dell laptop.

If it makes you feel good that you will pay a significantly higher price for the little alien-head on the Alienware laptop, go ahead and get the Alienware.

You need to give us more details of what you want. What screen size do you want? Do you want a notebook or a desktop?

Im pretty sure those high dollar alienware systems are NOT using the Pentium M mobile chip but using pentium4's instead, these processors are not made for laptops and get very hot to begin with, let alone put one in a laptop, the Pentium M's outperform their rival pentium 4's and do so at much lower wattage and heat and are currently the best laptop processors out there. The XPS is by no means a "mainstream" machine, If money Is no object, I would definitely go wiht the XPS Gen2 over the Alienware machines or a Dell Precision M70 which also has a good graphics card. The dells in question are buit better than their rival alienware systems.

I have no real specifics to what I want on the laptop and the desktops, I just need them to high rate stuff. Stuff that would blow the hinges off a Tank. I don't really care that much about appearance, Now having a large widescreen on a laptop would be nice. Remember though, I am not only on the market looking for laptop, I want multiple systems., A laptop and maybe like 2 desktops. Price is not a factor, but Dells are reasonably a bit more affordable than many of their systems out there. Alienware is one those companies that are bit expensive.

A good graphics card preferable PCI-E. I am going to be looking for stuff on the high-end of graphics, preferably the 7800 gtx installed on the desktops and maybe the 6800 ultra for the laptops. I know that Alienware carries 6800 ultra on their Area-51m 7700 laptops, but the only thing is that the whole system runs really got, but you do have superior graphics I think.... I don't know.

I might end up buying a laptop, and a desktop, and then build a desktop. That might be a tad bit simpler.

The 51m and the XPS are basically the same price, both have nvidia 6800ultra,but the XPS has Pentium M and the 51m has Pentium 4.For better battery life, get th XPS. Performance will be the same as I heard a 2GHZ PM is equivalent to a 3.4P4.
