is Acer pretty good?

Thread Starter
so i've had this alienware for a while, and i'm done with it and their company.

i'm looking to get a tablet pc and all my research has steered me towards Acer. i was hoping people could enlighten me to some aspects of the Acer company and their product.

if anyone has, or has used a Travelmate C310 series (i would get the C314MXi) and can tell me about it, please do.

how is acer's customer service/warranty/repairs?

do acer machines feel durable, like they could take some bumps and jossles? (I'm a college student and i'd be taking it to and from class/campus every day)

If there's anything else you can think to tell me (positive or negative) about Acer to help me make my decision, please do. I would really appreciate it.

i have a travelmate 8104 and have used the acer service warrany and repair service on it and they were great, fast reliable and payed for everything (small problem with a connection on the motherboard)

durable, from my 5 months of uses as a college student i have done alot to the laptop. i had my laptop booksack on a table with my calculus book in it and my travelmate and it fell face down on the ground (darn gravity) and then it did it again 2 minutes later. any way the laptop was fine and works great. but i know nothing about their tablet pc's

hope that helped some

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Acer. I bought Ferrari 3200 and C300 for me and my wife. Both of them have problems and Ferrari had to be replaced, which was total hell. After I sent them my Ferrari with fried motherboard, it took Acer 1.5 months to send another one back. During this time, several of the representatives openly lied to me about the progress of repairs. I won't buy another Acer .

We have a bunch of Acer with no problems but Acer service center is lagging behind and the service quality is hit and miss as they have just trained a bunch of new people. Guess this is the price for success as Acer sales in the U.S. went from about 150 million last year to a billion this year.

As far as build quality, Acer is no different than 80% of the laptop on the market as they are all built by four major Taiwanese ODM with factory in China.

When I called Acer about my one (and only) problem with the notebook that I wasn't able to resolve myself, I was helped immediately, and it didn't take very long at all. I've never needed to use them for warranty repair (and yes, I'm one of those who's not only left their notebook in the car in the hot summer, but done other horrible things to it as well), and I can recommend their products.

I can't figure out what could be better on the W1N than the Ferrari. Please inform me.

built quality,
material used,
the overall user impressions,
quite fan, etc,not to mention the multi media facillities such as sub woofer and remote control and tv tuner built in.
if u love the apple power book design, u will definetlly love the W1N
but of course if u talk about performance, the 1,6 dothan can't match the Turion found on the ferrari. :P
i use the W1N @ home and Ferrari on the office.

Ahhh, I was only looking at the stats. I didn't know the w1n came with a built in tv tuner. That's nice to have... with a remote and such. I do like the thinner notebooks, but the folio design of the Acer Ferrari and the TM8104 are my favorite looks so far (don't look quite so breakable, but still thin). And with the x700, I am quite happy. I don't care what anybody says, it's a gaming notebook.
