T41 or R51?

Thread Starter
I have to buy a notebook for my study (Media & entertainment management -> some photoshop, webdesign, office and some video editing) Because of my budget of +/- 1000,- E, I've been thinking of buying a used one. I searched around, placed an add and had the following responses:

1.
IBM laptop r51
E 799,-
Centrino 1,5 ghz, 1,3gb intern, 15" 1024x786, 40gb @ 5400, bluetooth
The saler didn't had any other specifications (was through the telephone) and told me to search by myself. Well I don't have a product nr soI'm not sure what to search for
There is still store guarantee till 1-1-2006

2.
IBM t41
E 675,-
Beeldscherm: 14,1” TFT, 1024x786
Intel Mobile Pentium 730 M Processor 1600 MHz centrino
Harddisk: 40,0 GB 5400 rpm
1024mb intern
DVD-ROM-drive
ATI Mobility Radeon 7500, 32MB DDR-SDRAM videokaart
Ansluitingen: 2x USB 2.0, 1x Parallele poort (LPT), 1x D-SUB VGA poort, 1x
S-Video output

No more store guarantee (coverage, whatever)
Both told me that you could always buy an IBM guarantee, so I guess that's right?
Normally I don't really trust used laptops, errors can be really hard to find untill you start using it. But after a lot of reading about IBM I found out that they're really good systems and usually used by sales/business man (not students who make a mess )

Hereby I ask you for some advice for the above systems. Off course I'm always open to other suggestions, my budget is around +/- 1000 but I can use a loan to buy a more expensive one. If so, I want one where I can play Quake4 (and/or doom3 (same engine), lowest settings is fine too, I don't care about graphics in a game) and at least 1400x1050

hope anyone can help me

The T-41 is a more portable machine, the R-51 is more bulky. Dont know the video card on the R-51 but the T-41 should be decent for medium usage.

Also think about it, you have only 4 more months left on the warranty for the R-51. Personally I would go for the T-41, beacuse its easy to take around.
