I do note there is no such thing as an AMD Mobile Athlon 64 FX-51 3200+. There is a mobile Athlon 64 and an Athlon 64 FX-51 and an Athlon 64 3200+, but they are three very different processors. Neither the Mobile nor the FX-51 come in a 3200+ configuration nor is there a mobile FX-51 processor. This may be just some of the usual exageration hype. But you would think a firm that glorifies being cutting edge would be a lot more careful about terminology.

I also question the Battery which is listed at 3.7 volts with 2200 mAH but a 150 watt AC adaptor. Yes, the Athlon takes a bit less power than a SAGER 8890 but only maybe 25% less, say 60 vs 80. Meanwhile the 8890 has a 14.8 V battery with 6600 mAH. That's like 12 times more power and yet they say it last 3 to 4 times longer. That's extremely difficult to believe, if not impossible. And if its that skimpy on juice, why the nuclear power adaptor. The SAGER's is only 120 watts.

A data sheet is helpful and tends to give some credence. Mistakes like I've noted tend to belie that credence. Sort of like someone telling you they are a computer whiz and then they ask you what's Windows XP.

Yeah, that's pretty impossible...there's no way in hell you could run a laptop off 3.7 volts. Must be a mistake. Funny....hyperdata's spec on their laptop is the same. Sounds kinda like the error came from the ODM, with both of these OEMs getting spec sheet and using those specs without thinking about them or even looking at them.

Also It's physically impossible that it's the FX-51. Wrong socket type and wrong chipset. It's got to be a Mobile A64 or the A64 DTR.

It's just totally puts me off that this company can't seem to get it's facts straight. If you read through the website almost every sentence is misleading or contains contradictory facts.

They're manufacturers, not integrators?
that's misleading because they're obviously an OEM. They use parts made by other companies and just put the systems together.

Did you see the bit about the TXK drives or whatever?
It's describing a RAID setup and saying that it provides 266 mb/sec throughput. They say a non raid system would provide 10-12 secs load time on some "test " they did, and the "TXK" load time was 0-1 secs. I've never seen raid performance like that....

It seems like they just know a lot of terms and some of how it works, and then throw together these mumbojumbo bogus specs and descriptions as a result. I could rant and rave about it all night. Every time i look at a different part of their webpage i find something that is questionable.

I would just expect a company who supposedly sells the "world's fastest laptop" to atleast have it's facts straight and put together a webpage that makes any bit of sense.

MEDDUDE...thats awesome. it does sound like they are legit. but it just seems that they add a little too much to the specs of their products. "9600 radeon 3D professional rated to the EXTREME!" wtf? anyways...what are the specs of the lappy that you got? i'm taking the plunge as soon as i get your review with verification of the 128 radeon, the 7200rpm 80gb hd, and AMD FX. i'm excited! keep us posted on the progress of your order. anything would be awesome. thanks

god if everything works out and its all legit..i think imma breakdown and buy 2!

Ah, Sidius, leave the vents open, its good for the heart.

Actually, there's no reason someone couldn't do a laptop with a FX-51, it would be no different than CLEVO/SAGER using desktop P4s in their machines. Just means modifying the mobo a bit so you could shoehorn a Socket 940 in there. It would make a hell of a machine. Combine it with an ATI 9800 Pro/Fire GL2 with 256 mb vram. Add in some nasty DDR RAM, some 1 Gig sticks as soon as they become available. Use a 2 GB Solid State Drive for the OS and swap file. Power the bugger with a Kokam L-ION Poly mega cell with 250 watthours (its made for electric vehicles, 70 AH @ 3.7 volts, 18" x 13" x 1/4" thick). Use a sink with 4 - 1/8" x 5/8" sintered metal heat pipes leading to a 1.5" x 3/4" x 18" finned extrusion heatsink across the back. Those will pull off 30 watts a piece and that extrusion will dump that much heat with an airflow of 2m/s. That's a very slow fan virtually soundless. A nice 22" UXGA LCD screen to round it out and some 60 gig 7200 HDs to round it out.

I'd be a happy camper.

are this real?

mmmh, are these machines real??

Yes, I took the plunge. Got the receipt emailed and everything seems legit.

I will do a full review with pictures, specs, the whole shabam ASAP.

I decided to call my American Express card cust. serv. to find out about my protection options. If you buy a computer with an AMEX blue you are protected in about every way. I am confident that they are legit as far as an existing company that sells computers. The specs we are all leary of. You have a full 90 days with AMEX, if you're not completely satisfied for any reason you can send it back and the AMEX will give you a full refund. No 15% restocking fee. EVERYTHING! That sold me right there. I like security.

If it is just another AMD 64bit lappy, but was able to squeeze in a 128mb M10 then I'm keeping it. It is still an awesome deal. Time will tell.

Hypersonic and Hyperdata are releasing a Athlon64bit with 128 megabyte graphics card in the 1Q of 2004.

Check out this company http://www.go-l.com/laptops/index.htm

These guys have been selling servers for a long time, but laptops for only 3 months. The most impressive computer web site I have ever seen, but take a look at everything they do to these lappy's.

If these guys can do stuff like this I truly believe that Michael's Computers is able to accomplish what he has done.

If Michael's Computers had a web site this impressive then I think we would all be believers.

Make sure you read about PuRAM-Awesome! Only a $5000 Option.

Go l has been thoroughly discussed in these forums for a long time. Do a search. Really kids, doing a search is easy and you'd be surprised at what you find.

First of all, the 'L' laptops are just modified CLEVO's. The PURAM drives are simply Solid State Drives which have been around for a decade or more, but because of the expense are not very common. Generally you are looking at around $1000 per GB, compare that with HDDs at about $2 to $5 a GB and you begin to understand why they are not being used much. However they are very, very fast and very, very solid. They are almost bulletproof and use virtually no power, just that to read or write. You can do a Google on Solid State Drives. The SSD industry is poised to make major inroads into the mainstream market in the next year or so. My bet is they will wait until the PCI Express/BTX changeover is happening, probably the last half of next year. Within 2 to 3 years, I am guessing SSD will likely be a normal option in most computers and in 10 years I'd guess rotating media will be a memory except for large scale archiving. The cost of CD/DVD media is so cheap and it is pretty much permanent, ideal qualities for archives. But SSD is so much faster, uses so much less energy, is so much more resilient and its getting smaller and smaller. Look at any of the 'flash' memory cards - CF has 1 gig chips and they are working on 4 gig chips. SD will be bringing out a 1 gig chip soon. Within 2 years they will probably be up to around 16 gigs. And their cost is coming down with each new size release. Plus there's the new SDIO slot, you can already get a WiFi SDIO card. http://www.socketcom.com/product/WL6200-480.asp

With PCI Express, the replacement for PCMCIA will be a direct bus interface and extension that is about 55% the size of a current PCMCIA card. That will have initial IO rates of 250 MB/s each way. Honk, honk!! And it will be good for just about everything you can think of. Even more versatile than the PCMCIA.

The big multi screen thing is not big deal, check out http://www.digitaltigers.com/sidecar.shtml which is where "L" ripped off the graphics and text.

The site is a reworked Apple site. Lots of gloss and glitter but little behind it.

Like I said, do a search here in the forums or Google it, you'll find more than you will ever want to read about this subject. Much of it will make you sick, some of it will make you angry. But it will all make you a lot more wary of WHIZBANG web sites.

hi folks,

i have a few questions/comments.

can somebody tell me the physical differences between the ATI-64 and the ATI-128?

if the ATI-128 is bigger, then, wouldn't they have to mod the motherboard or alter it in some way?

anyway, anantech report on the Voodoo 64 lappy says that it is "surprisingly quiet" and Voodoo also says that the battery life is on par with that of 'pentium m' processors. that sounds really nice. i wouldn't want a 'microwave oven' sound comming out of the lappy.

My lappy (from hyperdata) will ship next week (it will arrive to the warehouse next week) and i am planning to install linux mandrake-64. BTW, on the mandrake site, i saw a report that says that the 64 bit version was tested on a Mitac laptop! i wonder where the heck they were able to get the lappy from. it would be really nice if everything worked right away

the benchmarks that were obtained in the anantech review (for the Voodoo lapp) were made with a 32 operating system. my guess is that if they were made in a 64 operating system, they would have somehow improve to the better (?). for windows, there is a beta 64-bit XP but it will not be out till next year. the 64 bit OS from mandrake comes also with 3 CDs of 32 bit apps (some already converted to 64 bits).

in my case, i will be ok with the 64 ATI card and i will not wait for the new laptops. anyway, can somebody tell me the price difference between the AMD64 and the AMD128 cards?

ohh, one last question what is the price difference between DDR400 and an inferior memory type? I ask because hyperdata will ship my lappy with DDR400 (and originally it was not DDR400) at no extra charge (looks like they are nice guys), and i want to know the difference.

finally, i wish MEDDUDE good luck and congrats!! did Michael give you a shipping day? on their site it says that they are shipping !

arp heres an email i received from michael when i asked about the 128 in his laptop. maybe this will answer some of your questions

Yes, the 128MB M10P ATI Video chipset is used. Since we are discussing the MX51 here, it is a sideways placed small card and the 128MB is located on a sideband…this is how we allocated the space, cooling and configuration. Other manufacturers don’t do this, or not yet, as they take a look at the 128MB cards and see in their original shape, the don’t fit a laptop….we master this technique. Yes, the MX51 is equipped with 128MB. We do include 3D Mark 2003 so you can see all the benefits of your video chipset and processor going hard at work…
post #59 of 110
ok. i see.

i wonder if they've somehow compromised the airflow (cooling) going through the card
( i don't know, just speculating ).

hope everything turns out well for everybody. MEDDUDE will have the most powerful toy around
