I am returning the z70va...WARNING FOR THOSE WHO HATE FAN NOISE - Page 2

Are you sure it isn't the GPU fan? That could get pretty loud.
Yeah, the problem is the GPU fan, not the CPU...so undervolting via CHC won't really help. When I use CHC, the GPU fan comes on in the same amount of time, no matter how cool my CPU is...Using Speedfan, you can shut down the GPU fan, and you'd be hard pressed to hear the CPU fan going...
There's 3 fans in here according to Everest ... CPU, Chassis, and GPU. The one that I hear come on a few mins after it starts is the Chassis fan, not the GPU. That one only runs during gaming, and IS rather loud (but then again I'd expect it to be). If you see that the GPU fan is on all the time, there is a problem as it shouldn't be AFAIK ...
Well, as far as I can tell, Everest calls the GPU fan the chassis fan (I've only seen it reading the CPU and Chassis fan, never a third)....Speedfan only reads two fans, and I'm almost 100% sure that there are only two, the GPU on the left in the back, and the CPU on the right hand side. And yes, the GPU fan is on almost the entire time. The only time mine goes off is when I set Powerplay to optimal battery, and then just let my computer idle...

Definitely the GPU fan. Anyone try to install ATI tray tools? I tried but the laptop locks up after install.

Mine's absolutely silent.

Received my Z70VA yesterday....I can not really hear the fans at all.

Ok this is like killing my work load. Every third question i get relates to this. If you have one of these notebooks that has a disfunctional fan please let me know. I ll send you a round trip pickup label. We will replace your fans if they are bad and even post a dba reading compared to other notebooks. Even if you bought it elsewhere. I would love to see what you guys are talking about. Every single unit we shipped thus far (z70a/v/va/va) had no problems what so ever and infact one and the same as the rest. Only complaints i had were from people who read these posts and i am guesing are EXTREMELY sensetive. Please contact me. I really would love to put an end to this but have no way because so far I have not seen a faulty unit even the few we had returned for this issue were 100% normal.

I wish you could see (hear) my notebook in person to prove the fan's noise. Seeing (or rather hearing in this case) is believing.

Anyway, I have already returned the z70va.

Wish i can too any other takers?

CHC can underclock the ATI card iirc. Might be worth a try.

ok guys, GO TO Radio Shack, Future Shop, Staples, The Source any god damn electronic store and buy a god damn DB meter ( sound meter) and test it post results and RETURN it within 15 days or w/e SIMPLE and comapre it to the people who have quiet ones and who has loud Z70va and post what kinda of LOAD ur putting it on, Undervolting and all of the Specs asociated to why the fans are sooooooo loud..

There's no need to send ur laptop to someone just go and buy a Db meter and figure it all out amongst urselfs.. ALso use ur digital camera and record the sounds if possible and upload em here or provide a link.. etc etc.. YES this takes time but hey it will alow all of u guys to compare and figure out this thing as a whole.

To determine whether its teh fans or faulty or dfects or just poor design... w/e the case just DO IT and test and compare. Or live with it or return it and don't test it. w/e

That's my 2 Cents to move forward and make progress to this pandemonium...

Thanks,

I can help settle the issue of whether the fan is too loud or whether people are being picky. I have recieved TWO z70v notebooks from ISTNC. The GPU fan is noise level is VERY different between the two. The one that is louder was sent to me last week (around 9/22). So, there are defintely some z70v's with fan defects. It could be:
1) A heatsink not attached properly to the GPU
2) A bad fan bearing
3) Something else...

I have already sent my z70v back for problems with the touchpad, so I am hesitant to send it back again for the GPU fan problem. I wish there was a way to solve the problem myself. I changed the fan speed, but it has to be done everytime I boot the computer (and I fear that I am overheating the GPU).

I hope that I will not be penalized for the 15% restocking fee but I expect it to happen. If that is the case, then I just have to swallow the lost. In just 3-4 days, I will lose over $230 worth of restocking fee.

The reason: Constant annoying fan noise!

The fan from the upper left hand corner constantly spins at a very annoying audible rate. When you first turn on the computer, the computer is usually cool so the fan starts to spin at a very slow rate barely audible unless you put your ear next to the keyboard.

This is great until.....

...after about 30 seconds to 2 minutes, when the temperature reaches to about 55 degrees, the fan picks up a notch and becomes annoying and very audible. Standing about 10 feet away in a quiet room, I can hear the fan noise....so imaging what it would be like sitting about 18-24 inches from the laptop screen.

I have tried all weekend to find a solution but have not been able to get the fan to quiet down. From undervolting to controlling the fan using Everest & Speed Fan 4.25, nothing works. The Speed Fan 4.25 is only a temporary solution because after you reboot the laptop, the annoying fan comes back and spins at a very audible rate... CONSTANTLY non-stop!
I thought that after playing with with over the weekend, I will get used to the noise since it has a constant monotonous sound, but it still bothers me very much.

So this is a warning to those who don't like fan noise or are somewhat sensitive to such noise.
If you want to risk it, then you may have to pay the restocking fee unless you buy it at a reseller that don't penalize you for it. 15% restocking fee is a lot.

I waited almost 1 month for this laptop and at the end I have to return it in only 3-4 days.
that why always buy form big companies liek dell hardly cahrges a restocking fee if something is wrong with the laptop. how the dell m70?

well u have to realzie that the asus z70va is louder than the dell xps2 and it offers more than 2 the gaming prefromance. that sad. Also my dell m70 is so dam quiet i dont know if there is any notebook out there thatis quiter besides fan less notebooks. My point proven you can make a laptop that thin with an pentium m and x700 without all of that heat. people should jsut stop coyping apple..the asus z70va is still uglier than the apple and it wont ever come close. nO company has ever came close. They should just do their own thing.

i dont notice a fan problem at all

maybe im use to it?

Everybody wave at the troll.

nightbladeX, you are not getting used to the fan noise. As I mentioned earlier, there are differences in fan noise of notebooks even within the same model group (z70v, z70va, etc...). Asus is not putting our notebooks together very well with this amount of variability!
