Agreed. But my reason for sending it back is due to the fan running approx. 50% all the time. As far as my point about spending 2g's, I never said I wanted perfection. That was not my point at all. All I'm saying is if you're happy with spending 2g's on something that you believe is working right then great, but I really felt like there was something wrong with the one I received. And that 2 thousand to 200 thousand dollar anology is completely off. Actually it's a downright terrible analogy but nice try.
This thread was created to share our thougths not to say "don't buy this laptop" I never knocked the laptop, the performance is everything I asked for. I love the thing that's why I sent it back to either get fixed or replaced not a refund. All in all I appreciate everyone's comments and opinions. I'll definitely let you all know what happens when I get my laptop back.

ah, okay. I misunderstood the comment.

(goes to look up better analogies)

BadBoy was the one who said he expected perfection, which I agree is unrealistic. It is a computer after all, and there will always be problems.

Some people will get louder Z70va fans than others, just like some folks got more "sparkly" Z71v screens than others. The point is that although your issue and Vancomycin's issue with the fans are legitimate, the fact that you have had fan issues does not necessarily mean that everyone should avoid buying the notebook.
And yes, that was my point. I'm not faulting those who have a problem with the Z70VA's fans, as it is a legitimate complaint and should be sent back to the reseller to see if it can be fixed or not. I'm just trying to keep it from getting blown out of proportion like the sparkles on the Z71V have been. People will start to think it is a problem on every Z70VA, whereas it's only bad on some models. It really shouldn't be a major factor in deciding whether or not to purchase the notebook, unless you're sensitive to noise. If you are, you've been warned.

True

I regret making that comment, as no notebook can be, quote on quote, "perfect". However, I'm a little bit confused by that comment made by madmike; is it true that dvi will not be coming out for this notebook? Thanks!

Yes, most likely (I trust Justin from ProPortable) DVI is off until sometime next year on another refresh or something like that. I'm glad I didn't cancel my order to wait for the DVI version.
Yes, it's true.
Geared2Play have been saying it for a while and ProPortable confirmed it also.
Well that kind of sucks. Oh well, I guess that means now I can order my refresh whenever the hell I feel like it now. Knowing me, I'll still stew over whether or not to commit until Saturday anyway. Just my nature...

Here's the link for the those that want proof. DVI looks to be pretty much out of the question for the Z70.

Well

That just stinks then. I guess I might as well go ahead and purchase mine, perhaps this weekend. I'm guessing since I want it soon, I should probably go ahead and get the 100GB 7200rpm hdd.

whining fan

i've also got a problem with my z70va.

the fan does seem to run a lot, which wouldn't bother me as it's pretty quiet. but it's accompanied by an annoying whine that's noticeable from a normal sitting distance (1-2 ft).

is that the same problem as the others? what causing it or what can be done to fix it?

yes this is the issue I've encountered and I sent my laptop back to the reseller for inspection. Once your GPU fan starts does it ever stop? The whine is pretty slight but it did wear on me. my bigger concern is why the fan is constantly running even during normal use. Like I said before I don't think this is normal as my buddies have much more graphic intensive GPU's in their alienware/sager (6800, X800) and their fans increase and decrease speeds accordingly. I truely believe the Z70 has an issue either sensing heat incorrectly or dissapating heat poorly thus causing the fan to run all the time. i'll let you know what my reseller says but it looks like it's something we're going to have to deal with. I hope swapping the fan and motor is an option down the road cuz the whine was very noticable. Try slowing the fan with some sort of software and you'll hear how quiet the laptop should be. good luck!

Do you guys suspect this new shipment from ISTNC (the one that'll supposedly ship out, at earliest, on the 22nd) to have the same problem? I hope not, because I really do wanna go ahead and order, but it seems kinda risky right now, as I do not want to end up with one of these problematic systems.
There is no problem with the fan. There are ways to lower the temps if one wanted to- with Centrino Hardware Control, but yes, they're all like that. If you used Power4Gear that came included with the laptop instead of CHC, then the Super Performance setting will max out all the settings for a "Super Performance", which will make things super fast and super hot- the fan will need to kick on and spit that hot air out.

that is very unacurate. The gpu is not very powerful its avg for gmaing my nvidia card in my dell gets aroun 3,7000 in 3dmark o5 and the fan never comes on during normal to doing photoshop. It comes on and off during gaming. It has to do with the thiness of the computer the asus is thinner than my dell therefore generates more notibile heat and fan noise. I wold say that both of my fans on hgh on the dell are lower than my frineds asus z70va. Een thoggh my fans never come on high since i undervolted. it all has to do with the thinness of the machine.

Well

What about this whining noise then? Is that not the fan (the fan PROBLEM)? Thanks
post #56 of 66
my gpu fan is kinda whiny, but if there's any ambient noise at all, it totally blends in...but if I turn the GPU fan off in Speedfan, the laptop is almost totally silent because the CPU fan is pretty darn quiet under normal use.

Same here, I wish they could have used a more silent motor for the GPU fan.

The whining noise is the fan on high gear. If you're at "Super Performance" then that means you're max out to the highest settings; highest power & highest speed, which equals to highest temperatures. So I would say it's normal for the Z70 series. I'm sure there are many who would back up this statement also. That's why many of us undervolt/underclock. Quieter, cooler, less wear, and most of all, longer battery life.

Oh

Okay, I see. So then, do you all think it's a safe bet to go ahead and order my laptop from ISTNC? Also, there the only reseller that people are getting the (integrated) bluetooth from, right? And, Geared 2 Play doesn't have that right (the integrated bluetooth)? If or if not, how has it been buying from them, those of you who have purchased your notebook from them? Thanks.

Geared2Play has it up today w/BT. I have never heard of a complaint about their service. They rate highly. Check their forum...http://www.geared2play.com//phpbb/nf...hp?p=2234#2234
