Regular display vs. Ultrabright, BrightView, TruBrite, XBRITE-ECO, ClearDisplay LCD

Hi guys!

I am considering buying one of the CyberPower notebooks as they seem to offer a pretty interesting price/specs combinations, but I am a little perplexed about the newest display types. Most of the notebooks produced now come with some kind of Ultrabright, BrightView, TruBrite, XBRITE-ECO, ClearDisplay LCD finish “technology”. CyberPower, though, offers only regular (WXGA TFT LCD) and Anti-Glare WXGA.

My question is: does this new technology, which I believe is only a kind of coating, offers any notable advantage worth fighting for. And if it does, how this advantage can be expressed in some measurable terms, like contrast ratio, “real brightness” or so. All that I noticed in the store was “the extra bright glare”. Kind of disappointing… Did not have a chance to compare them side by side though.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Glare-type screens

pros:

brilliant picture quality over matte screens (more contrast, brightness), wide viewing angle

cons:

attracts dust/dirt, harder to clean over matte screens, fingerprint prone, glare

I own a TruBrite 17" screen and the dust is not a problem at all. I use the little wipey that I also use for glasses (ie: reading) to take the dust off. Works like a charm. I don't know, also, why anyone would have fingerprints on their screen. It's not for poking or touching, and that's just what I tell people when they get near it. "Look with your eyes, not with your hands."

Yes, there's glare, but I find that if you don't have a solid colour on your screen all the time, that glare gets reduced drastically. I have a multicoloured dark background right now and I love the way it looks.

I used to use a Dell I6000 with the regular matted screen and the colours on this one that I have now are much brighter, more vivid, and nicer to look at overall.

Also, consider the fact that if your screen isn't as bright or vivid as it should be then it won't be much good for things like photo editing, and you won't get the same "shebang" when watching films or playing games since the way you see things won't be up to par with the better screens.

Food for thought, right there.

Considering that it's a standard nowadays, I don't know how you could say no. It's not like it'll cost you more, unless you buy a Dell or similar.

Hi, Guys!

Appreciate your help.

I do not mind to upgrade, but the CyberPower does not seem to offer such a choice.
The specs look very attractive for the price though.

Did anybody saw anything similar from other suppliers, like Sager, Acer, PC Torque?

I bought a sager 3880, my nushield protector should arrive shortly. I got the nushield due to reports that it gave an "XBrite-ish" aspect to the screen:

There're pictures if you follow that link. So you can get the glossy look without having to go for a Sony that doesn't have all the features you want.
