Had a freak accident with Partition Magic and had to re-install the whole system. Took this chance to run some benchmarks , Scores are based on stock settings.

Or you can just give us the scores. We'll believe you, promise.

I want to know how it compares to the 8104 with 128MB VRAM.

All benchmarks run on stock settings and mobility catalyst 5.8, have uninstalled the benchmark and upgraded to 5.10 cat at the moment.

03 Benchmark Score - 6203

05 Benchmark Score - 2771

No way. I got the 1694WLMiB and get 2900 with Omegadrivers @ Stock settings. Can`t believe that u get even equal scores with lower CPU.

Here are the screenshots. Once again no OC has been done, all are run on stock settings. Gonna download the benchmarks again and see if there is any difference on mob cat 5.10

3DMark 2001

3DMark 2003

3DMark 2005

So it looks like with the added RAM (2 GB, instead of 1), and the added VRAM (256 MB, instead of 128), but a slightly slower processor (1.73 GHz, rather than 2.0) you gain approx. 200 3dmarks with the Aspire 1692 over the TM 8104.

I would have expected the scores to have been slightly higher, I have the 1691 DDR2 X700 version of the m/c which is running at 1600 all settings standard including standard acer video driver, and I get almost a similar score to yours. ie. 3dmark returns 16150, similar results on other benchmarks ie. about 20 less than yours. Very strange.
I have 2 x 512 ram, other than that m/c is bog standard. I have however pruned out some of the Acer stuff except for the recovery and power management, also stopped a lot of un-needed services.

Mike, the reason your scores are comparable to medic44's is that you're comparing the 3dmark01 scores. The only ones that really matter today are the 3dmark05 scores. You see, Acer sends their notebooks out with older "proven" drivers that they trust work well with everything. If they sent out notebooks with the newest drivers, and there was a problem later discovered with them, Acer would probably have to deal with a lot of tech calls. So they send out older drivers, meant more for yesterday's games, and thus, your 3dmark01 scores will often be higher with outdated drivers, while your 3dmark05 scores should be higher with the new drivers.

Hope this helps answer your question.
